New, ideas/help?

So Im moving to auckland new zealand from b.c. canada in february.. THATS RIGHT FROM CANADA! hahaha
When I get there I wanna build a cheap truck (Im not new to 4x4ing) haha
I was thinking a toyota surf, probly mid to late 80's, 2" body lift, 2" choil spacers and either 2" add a leaf or blocks. Truck would be sitting on 33x12.50x15, on a nice set of steel 15x10's. All together if I bargain hunt it should all cost around $5,000nz
Heres my question to everyone out there,
Ive been browsing trademe.com for cheap toyotas, is there anywhere else I can find cheap deals on trucks?
where to get cheap parts/tires&wheels ect ect
I usually build them all myself due to having a shop, but moving into a condo in auckland city that wont be possible, does anyone have any hookups to a shop I can use or a cheap place that would do the work for me?
oh also wheres good locations to go to get some good 4x4ing in?
Sorry for the overload of questions haha just trying to get my feet on the ground and have everything setup and ready to go for when I get there.
Thanks for any help you can give!!!

Hi mate, Welcome.
Sella.co.nz is another website and you can try carsforsalenz.co.nz
Woodhill forest is a great place that isn't far from Auckland. I would suggest joining a 4wd club as you will get access to a lot more places than just on your own. I would say join the club I am in, which is Norwest OHV club inc. our website is
http://norwestohv.tripod.comOr you could try Auckland 4wd club too.
Shop wise I am not to sure sorry.
Cheers

Bring some stuff with you in the house pack (what you dont need sell), but be wary of Left hand drive stuff maybe not fitting over here. Maybe buy some wheels, etc to bring with you (bring extras to sell and make a few $$$ too).
I think maybe your target of $5000 for a working / modified wagon is optomistic, but may be do able (maybe).
The wider rims will need to be certified (extra cash spent on beurocracy) as will the body lift (do them at the same time and pay one fee not two). So thats around $400 right there.
Tyres and rims maybe around $2000
The basic truck will probably be the majority of the budget and a good one is going to set you back some coin. I'd be aiming for a round $8000 all up as being more a reasonable target.
But hey, you may strike it lucky, get a bargain and prove me wrong (I hope you do).
Good Luck Adam and welcome.

oh okay, yea thats a good idea. Here I know tons of great little places with massive deals such as the 33"s BRAND NEW and placed on a rim for a grand total of like $600 and they are like mud tires too.
But thanks for all your imput guys!! and if you can think of anything else just pm me!

Adam, you sound as excited as hell

, and rightly so. My advice is to take a deep breath and get your feet on New Zealand soil. The pace here is not that great, get yourself settled, go on a couple of 4x4 trips with a local club/group and see what vehicle would best suit your needs then jump here on ORE and do a build thread, if your one of the minority you might finish it in a couple of months

, or like the rest of us as time and money allow may take up to 4+ years

, in the mean time ,
SLOW DOWN AND HURRY,
FITZY.

Haha I am man, Ive been planning this move for a while and havent built a truck in like a year. Ive always been a toyota guy (built 3 of them myself) and its just always ran in my family haha. To be honest I was browsing around and suprised that i havent came across any older toyota pickups! its all like hilux and surf but I guess thats just me getting a bit of culture shock but kinda sucks cause toyota pickup my fav hands down.
and when I build trucks i tend to get all my parts at once and put it all together just spend days in the shop getting it all together but thanks for the advice bud

Hi Adam,
I thought that the words pick-up was a American Contenent phrase, here they are all ute's and Toyota is a major player. IMHO, this was due to cleaver marketing here in the early eighties.

Drop us a line when you get here, I'm sure we could sort you out a seat on a club run or at Woodhill, maybe.
