Dolphin fish.? are you serious mate, I've only ever seen one caught in a comp at Whangarei and it was the first one caught and people were just amazed by it eh.
And yea i ment to say a mechanical jig set-up as they can be very good allround rigs, the new Diawa metal geared jigging reels look sweet but im def a Shimano man when it comes to reels, I was thinking of a Torium but they are 6.2:1 so the old Charter special ive already got might be a good choice.?
Actually gutted as she's flat as a pancake out here today so dreaming of fishing at the mo
And yea the slow jigs are sweet around lunch time when you just let them drift along with the boat movement while having a feed, nice easy fishing

Those Lucanus jigs are lethal, strong little hooks. You wouldnt want top loose too many 200grm ones at the price. When I want a rest from jigging , I drift off the reef and put slow jig in rod holder, the movement boat is normally enough to work these lures, they also effective dragging out the back along as near bottom whereas soft baiting generally requires casting ahead of drift.
Consider a mechanical jigging rig before you commit to speed jig. The main difference is speed jigging reel ratio up around 6:1 where as MJ 4:1 . MJ probably more versatile for targeting puka and not as tiring. Look for stick that can handle up to 400grm jigs for your waters. You never know what comes along down your way, about 3 to 4 years ago I was in comp out of New Plymouth, gamefishing, all we caught was about 10 mahi mahi.
Freekish warm current.
Water temp was up around 16 c out from Tauranga this morning.
Happy jigging.
