Hey guys,
Got an intermittant starting problem. The solenoid clicks and all lights go dim and volt gauge drops but starter doesnt turn at all, click the key over several times and eventually it starts without a struggle that would indicate low batteries. At first i thought the solenoid might be buggered, but on my last outting offroad i discovered that the winch is doing the same thing. Strange. Any ideas? maybe a dodgy battery cable somewhere? Have replaced all the terminals and cleaned the earth lugs.

Mine does that too but could never diagnose it. I changed batteries a little while ago and hasn't happened since so maybe i fixed it unknowingly.

If its afactory electric it will be going thru the starter soleniod, found this out after wiring up an aftermarket winch. When my starter was doing this I just gave it a good clean as it was covered in 20years of oil from dripping filters at oil change time and mud. Took this all away and no problems since.
Al.

Thought it might just need a good clean out. Is aftermarket electric winch, maybe also just needs a good clean out. Im guessing by the looks of the layout the solenoid infront of the high side battery is the main starter relay or an old factory winch solenoid, think it had a factory winch but my aftermarket is wired directly to the battery
