Hey,

Been lurking around reading for a while but just joined up. Live in Christchurch so out and about in canterbury.
I bought Nicks (COMILUX) truck.

87 Hilux with a 3.8 v6
ln130 5 speed box
2" Maxi-track lifted springs in rear and factory rear springs up front and mounts shifted forward
Surf steering box conversion and crossover steering and custom shock mounts
4.5 ratio diffs with front lockrite diff lock
35 maxxis creepy crawlers

Went up to Lake Coleridge on the weekend for the first trip. Truck went well but a couple of things I want to sort out. Extremely harsh ride, didn't realise how little up travel its got due to the surf steering so close to the leafs  Just a normal farm track had to crawl in low 2nd and reasonable flat riverbed idle along in low 1st. Is the surf steering conversion popular, whats the advantage?

Its certed for the engine but not other stuff. Is there anything I should consider before getting it all certed, wanna do it once for everything

Cheers,

Josh

Welcome aboard.
I to can have a hard ride with coilovers up front, admittedly not as hard as you with leaves, but tyre pressure makes a huge difference. As for the crossover steering set up, I'm of the understanding that this is superior or even required when greater flex is achieved with higher and more supple springs. Hope someone corrects me if i'm wrong.

Hi Welcome aboard, put your location in your profile so with future posts everyone not asking what part of the country your in all the time.
Leaf springs will always be a harsh ride but as kbjj said they are small things you can do to improve it alittle and tyre pressures are a good place to start.
Be good to see you out and about sometime.
