Hey guys
I have a 93 d21 td27 t terrano auto just wondering if anyone can tell me where the vaccum sensor that controls the torque converter lock up is located? Also has anyone been able to get hold of a new tps sensor i have tried nissan themselves, repco, dasko and no body can seem to supply me with one?? or does anyone have a second hand one they know is good?
Cheers

Why do you want a new tps? Just remove all that egr shit. From memory, my td27t was out of a 1989 Terrano, and the tps sensor hasn't been in use for years as I have removed the egr valves etc. I removed the tps last week while injector pump was out. I'm sure they are only a potentiometer, so should be easily checked with a multimeter. Where are you?

well someone told me a combination of the tps on the pump and a vaccum sensor controls the gear shifts and torque converter lock up??? when my truck hits 4th the torque converter locks straight away and when i accelerate it unlocks for about 3 seconds then locks again. but when its cold it doesnt lock until warm so i dont think the converter is jammedfaulty more whatever controls it?? i adjusted the tps and it made a big differenece to the shift pattern ??? i set it with a volt meter to 5.4 closed throttle but its very touchy as someone cut the edges off so it doesnt sit right and it will spike to 12.xx with next to no movement so im thinking get a new one. or is the person that told me talkng s#$t and it has nothing to do with the trans? i am in south auckland

Sorry, but I've just read this. Mine is a manuel, so I'm unsure if tps is needed for the auto. Although my factory service manual has a wiring diagram of the egr system, and the auto has nothing to dowith it. I have heard there is a temp sensor in the auto that changes it's characteristics when cold. You can have my tps if your stuck.

Start with the basics and idle the engine in neutral and check the amount of ATF you have in circulation as the trouble sounds like low fluid to me, check the ground where you park and around the gearbox belly for oil leaks.
Cover the basics first,
hope this helps

The auto will rely on the t.p.s and temp sender for gear change and lock up. Unplugging them will result in a default map and will shift to top gear and lock up by 90kph.

a new TPS is available through nissan - you need to get a parts guy with some time in the job. They are listed under there "unlisted parts" section of the cataloge
