Anyone know of a good outfit to check out a Hilux for me. Seller offered to take it to get checked so I just need to find some where for him to go. Sellers in Richmond area. Be good if it can be done on drive in basis. Cheers

I think theres only 2 in chch,

I had a guy take my car to canterbury car inspections, 2d wordsworth st, charged $110 for a subaru legacy, GT took just over 2 hours

Or AA for memory they were pretty busy so might have to book a few days in advance

The AA testing station here couldn't find the spare tyre hanging on the back door and didn't notice the whole aircon unit was missing (with its hoses almost sitting in the rad fan) when my dad was last there, so its probably a wise move to stay away

My old man said the same thing when he took his mini in (about AA testing station) told him his gearbox was screwed and was going to cost him about $1500 when he fixed it himself for $140 lol can't remember what the exact prob was

I went past a VTNZ today noticed they do them aswell

dont know the guy, never used him coz not in that part of the country, but lots of people speak highly of him

hes a 4wd expert and if you are buying a 4wd then I would be getting someone who knows about them to check it out for you

AA inspectors and the like wont have the inside knowledge of 4wd specific problems etc

He would by far be the best avenue for a pre purchase 4wd inspection

Yea could'nt agree more, I had the feeling the AA might not have been up with the play with 4wd's. Cheers guys.

when I bought my safari 4 yrs ago, the seller had a AA check done ready for the sale. It said the vehicle was in poor condition as it had some dings and scratches in the panels. When I had it checked by a proper 4wd mechanic he said it was in very good condition. No rust, no stuffed bushes or bearings, full compression and no leak down. I wouldn't go anywhere AA. Go and see Rick, he knows 4wds inside out.
