Transfer box issues - series3 A-frame towing

Post by Landynut »

front prop shaft is able to be turned freely with transfer box in normal range, but is locked in neutral or low range........

any suggestions?

I have pulled apart both free wheeling hubs and aside from one broken spring they are both working fine, which has lead me to this...

why is the rear prop shaft connected to the front one when the transfer box is in neutral or low, but not when its in normal....

regarding towing the vehicle on an A-frame - should it be in high range with the gearbox in neutral so that the front prop shaft and front diff are not turning?
or should both boxes be in neutral with all propshafts and diffs turning ??

considering installing free wheeling hubs on the rear as well to make life easier.......

Any comments appreciated !

P.s. If anyone out there has a pair of AVM 10-spline hub lockers for sale let me know !

cheers I'll try that and see how it goes... just found while scouring the net landrovers reccomendation is to have the transferbox in neutral and the gearbox in 4th (lubricates the bearings or something) .. but that would also mean both propshafts and diffs are turning, which would cause more wear and drag etc....

But i guess with the transfer box in high range it turns everything inside the main gearbox as well....

4 free wheeling hubs is sounding like a good option....
