2nd wiper switch
2nd wiper switch
Any one got any ideas on how to wire this up?
I can get it to work but it is not steady, the wipers go fast, stop, fast, stop, fast, stop etc. (the stop is about half a second)Pulled the thingie apart and can bridge it to make it work and self park but like i say, its not steady.
The current factory (pajero) switch is off, int, on, fast.
The factory switch does need more than just bridging like you say,
When Key is on
Wiper motor has 1 full time power and 3 nil.
Wipers on slow speed, 1 has 8 volt, 2 have 12 and one also has 12 but it flicks on and off and slightly delayed getting its power (by about 1/2 second)
Wiper on full speed, same as above but instead of 8 volt it now has 16.
Any ideas?

Re: 2nd wiper switch
Just a guess but do you need another relay?
Re: 2nd wiper switch
To do what?
Its got me beat! Wired up the engine ok but the wipers... nup!!

Re: 2nd wiper switch
I had the same problem when putting a second switch in but at least I got a constant speed and it parked!
I don't know the answer but I'll playing with it soon as new truck will only have wipers in the middle and want to use factory controller. I'm hoping if we use 4 position switch then it will work but with previous experience and what you're finding I'm not sure.
I get the feeling that to figure it out I'll need to pull the switch apart and see where the power actually flows and hopefully duplicate it with switchs and or relays?

Yes good luck, I have discovered one of the contacts switchs from power to earth!
I can get the power to flow correctly but only when the main switch is in any position but off and that is when it is no good!!! ARGH... Oh and I am not quite sure how it gets 16 volts, just be a capacitor or something grunty in there.

Re: 2nd wiper switch
Hmm... sounds like the Pajero wiring is a bit more complicated, but on the hilux, it was just a matter of wiring the switch to bridge the correct two wires out of the standard wiper switch (just to get the fast wiper speed on a switch for the coey).
Although I did a lot of head scratching until I found a wiring diagram for a landcruiser and worked out how it was working!

Re: 2nd wiper switch
Yea Jeremy that is what I am after and I thought it would be simple... seems it is not!!!
I think I am going to have to bridge the fast setting at the original wiper switch (to get the 16 volts) and disable another wire - not sure what it does yet, its the one that gets power back feeding from +ve to -ve.
And yes this is for the co-ey as well.
How many wires (not counting the earth) go to a Hilux wiper motor? I have 4 go into a sealed unit attached to the motor then two come out of that and go to the wiper motor proper.

Re: 2nd wiper switch
I can't remember, but I guess 4 sounds about right?
If it's stopping for bit each sweep, maybe it's something to do with the intermittent setting? The hilux just had a few wires (maybe 4?) and bridging different pairs gave the different speeds, and I think two were bridged in the off position as well.
Mind you, the old hilux's are pretty basic machines

Re: 2nd wiper switch
hahah this is true, the passenger one was only getting half-way up the windscreen so i tried to tighten up the locking lug and it snapped off : now it only moves an inch or so.....

Dob of weld will fix that. Won't fix mine though!

yea it would fix it but i'd never get it off again !
need to drill out the old screw and re tap it...
have u tried running a second wire to a particular point on the wiper motor with only the earth hooked up?

Re: 2nd wiper switch
the intermittant works (i think) by a resisted current building up in a capacitor, is there a posibility the power is being sucked backwards into the capacitor ? you may need to just add a diode to solve the problem....
