An interesting situation is developing with the Queenstown Lakes District Council taking legal action to have a "road" legally recognised as such by way of implied dedication.

The outcome of this court case could have quite wide ranging implications.

Very Interesting! I didnt realise this was happening, I know a few groups that go camping/Fishing at Kidds Bush and have done for years, Also can see the others side of them not wanting poachers/4wders going up there and ripping up the paddocks, especially during Lambing. Tough one

I guess a lot of it comes back to personal responsibility - people with 4WD's ripping up pasture land would likely be a way off the formed track and therefore trespassing, not to mention just being louts.

The whole area has been contentious for some time - there has bee quite an argument between anglers and jetboater about access up the Hunter River.

As much as I hate to say it, but I cant help but agrree with the landowner, not so much about 4wds causing trouble, but no doubt ther'll be one or two, its more the youth of today congregating in various locations for drinking binges, that as we've all seen, get right out of control and end up a destruction party. The landowners must cringe with fear..

Possibly fence off the land either side of the road and just put a few driveway like accesses to the lake? I dont remember what the roads like but could be an option.. Reminds me, was heading down past a local river at Labour Weekend and sore two 4wds Playing in the Mud(a Picnic area) on side of the road. One was getting his Ripco Tow rope out and obviosly needed a hand. I had no recovery gear with me and dont have hooks on this truck yet, slowed down but decided against giving a hand. :|
