1KZ-TE Fuel consumption???

Just wondering - what sort of mileage are folks getting off this motor? I have just been on a trip through France and had some interesting results. The websites I have looked at suggest that a stock Prado should be doing 15l per 100km. Figures on the surf are slightly lower due to it being lighter.
My Prado has done 205000 kms and I got a steady average of 13.3l per 100km.
I had kinda been hoping for better economy than that, but if the former info is true, I seem to be doing pretty well!
Also, on one of the trips I measured, I got a slightly better figure (12.

- the strange thing is that it was when we were trying to catch a ferry and I was pushing it the whole way!!! How can a loaded Cruiser do better fuel consumption at 130km/h than 110????????

I took my measurments over approx 350kms each time.

My surf uses about the same with the 1kz. Mine is auto so uses slightly more. I had the injectors overhauled about a year ago and that made a huge difference to the fuel economy.
Diesels love air and you can never give them to much so maybe at 130km/hr you were getting better performance out of the engine requiring less fuel consumption. who knows really

Holy cow! My 3.1TD MU gets that economy running 36" Simexes!... it gets around 11 litres per 100km's on the 35" BFGs...
I didn't realise those motors were such a hog... thought they would return slightly better than that...

I've also been a bit disappointed with 1KZ-TE fuel economy. Out of my 94 Prado auto I average 14 litres / 100km. Compare that with my old 3B Landcruiser which returns 12 litres / 100km. Being 5 speed and snorkelled probably helps a bit though!

My 70 series flatdeck is doing around 22 litres / 100km
the chev engine does about the same economy as the 3F motor did
All my old 40 series trucks with 2F engines used to be about the same

Just got a KZJ78 (1994 LWB Prado, 1KZ-TE), drove it down from Auckland to Christchurch. Got 11l/100km. Pretty pleased with this.
Cheers

the diesels the cheap part, its the cylinder heads that cost!
