Post by mightyhilux4x4 »

hi guys and gals!!....been modding my 82 lux with 1uzfe and auto box..have opted for a 30-43LE transfer with electric engage ...damn thing wont disengage 4wd and is stuck in 100% of the time ..i would guess the electric actuator is stuck or jammed ...Ive neva pulled 1 apart before and wondered if any 1 has some diagrams or pics of what to expect or be checking for or a guide to rebuilding would be helpful....MUCH APPRECIATED PEOPLE.. :D

Before you pull it apart give it a gentle tap with a hammer. sometimes they just need freeing up.

Dont tap the motor, you will crack magnets, or they will come unstuck  . When you select and deselect 4wd, you should hear the motor operate briefly. The motor drives a strong spring into position, which in turn drives the output gear when the diff locking mechanisim lines up, or is not loaded. Not hard to dismantle, just clean and mark before dismantling. Have seen these units with water/mud in them which corrodes wiper switch contacts, brushes etc.
Hope this helps

Oh i guess your right what i should have said is: Take the largest hammer you can find and beat the shit out of it    sorry you misunderstood that.

If your worried that a gentle tap will break the magnets i suggest you take the motor out from under your 4wd, it will get a far harder time being smashed into rocks

Thats why the motor has a guard around it, to protect it from stones, and people with hammers  . I have rebuilt two of these units, and while working on one, I accidentally dropped the motor housing onto a wooden bench from a height of about 150mm, which separated one magnet from the casing. Thats why I say, Don't hit the motor. Electric diff lock units are very simalar.
Whats with the sarcastic shit anyway lolyf ? :?

Funny we had one stop working on the weekend, gave it a GENTLE TAP and it started working again. I wouldn't try dropping one!!
None of the ones i have seen have a guard around them? got pics of this guard?
Also no guard around my diff lock motor and they get an even harder time than the transfercase one.

  Hit it with a hammer if you want, apparently they get smashed by rocks, so it should handle it  . If this "fixes" it, may I suggest dismantleing and checking it. It may have crap in it or worn brushes, and they aren't cheap to replace if it burns out.

IMHO

would you like a dictionary so you can look up the difference between HIT and GENTLE TAP?
Im giving advise from real world experience not from sitting in front of a computer with my hand on my cock like some people

Don't you hate when you type a reply, hit submit and this ####### forum makes it disappear

for the second time: has the transfer worked since the conversion? If it has been working maybe its not the wiring?

What have they used instead of the controller, relays?
maybe it would be easier to go back to the original controller, I used one on my truck. they are very easy to wire up you don't need half the wires that are used in the original form. From memory i only used 8 wires to get mine to work, no speed inputs etc.

I do have a wiring diagram on paper somewhere if you get stuck (no pun intended  ) i can probably send you a copy.

Now to copy this in case it disappears again

its a totally new conversion...relays have been used.....i guess the principle behind the process is to reverse the polarity to the electric motor to engage then vice versa apparently by earthing the relay it engages the unearth and it disengages...or so the story goes ..the motor works fine and can engage and disengage at the motor terminals...but as soon as the cover on the switching side is replaced it engages with out using the controls im guessing something along the system is earthed....ill give the electrician that built the loom a ring this weekend and see what he thinks... :P
