1kz-te exhaust recomendations
Hey
Just interested in what you are running in the way of mufflers/resignators on you 1kz-te's?
Mines a 93 surf
Cant afford to do a full system at the mo but want to make it flow a little easier, factory pipe measures just over 2.3 inch so will leave it at that but put a 2.5 inch muffler/resignator in the factory mufflers place.
Trucks auto so dont want it load and droney but wouldnt mind a bit of noise when my foots on the boards.
Tosing up weather to fit a hotdog style resignator or a performance muffler of somekind.
Thanks
Nic

chuck in a hotdog in the size you might go too later.... 2.5 is all good although the discussion between 2.5 and 3 usually ends up being a tie mine is 2.5 but that is from the turbo back and without the resrtictive down pipe

Hey
Thanks, what length hotdog you got in yours and is it very load?
I was thinking of building a 2.5" manderal bent system down the track and would love to do the down pipe, if you could buy them off the shelf it fit one today as factory ones bloody ugly!

Re: 1kz-te exhaust recomendations
The turbo blocks most of the noise so you wont need a resonator... just install a low restriction muffler.....you want it to flow as easily as possible to keep your EGT a slow as possible.
If you can afford it install a dump tube ( this will reduce temps & allow the turbo to spool up faster so give you more power.)
Keep the bends in exhaust as gentle as possible this also makes it flow better.

Re: 1kz-te exhaust recomendations
Hey trev.
Thanks for advice, im a mechanic so understand all the exhaust stuff and as said above cant afford to do full system at the mo but when i do ill do a 2.5" manderal bent system and dump pipe but just want to open it up a little more than factory by replacing factory muffler.
I wasnt planing to run a resignator and a muffler just one or the other and the reason for my question was to see what others are running so i can get it flowing best without to much noise.
Im thinking a hotdog style resignator but when building an exhaust without using trial and error its hard to get the noise/flow factor right.

stock code SPEC80 .... works a treat.

Re: 1kz-te exhaust recomendations
I got a free flowing muffler on mine, its louder than stock but doesnt have the drone at open road speeds
Re: 1kz-te exhaust recomendations
The single biggest performance improvement I made to mine was to ditch the old dump pipe and make my own....
I had a 2.5 inch system in with factory dump pipe and it did make a small difference but nothing compared throwing it out and making one.
I did follow it up with a 3 inch system with a bullet type resonator.
(drones a bit)
But a 2.5 inch system as made mention here would suffice.
Have a read thru this post....to give you some idea's.

Hey, thanks for that, i agree the dump pipe would be a major improvement.
Ive read that topic before and theres lots of great info there.
I wish i could buy one off the shelf tho rather than having to make one - trucks a every day driver so need it on the road.
At the moment my main interest is to get gases flowing a bit beter to try mininise overheaing isues they have untill i have the time/money to build a full system.

Re: 1kz-te exhaust recomendations
take it over to Johns place, he'll wip you up a striaght pipe off the turbo and out the bonnet in no time

Never argue with an idiot, they drag you down to their level then beat you with experiance!
Re: 1kz-te exhaust recomendations
Now your talking, have it coming up opposite sides to the snorkel
Bought a 460mm long resignator today so il weld that on in place of factory muffler and see how i go.
