pureora forest
Hi All im looking at heading to Pureora after new years either the second or third weekend
i havent been there for a few years is the northern(ish)doc camping sites still there, last we were there it was about $5per day.
will be looking at doing the hard tracks but it will also be based around a family run,
my idae at the moment is to set up camp on a friday 4 wheel sat and sun and then head back home on monday although this can be easily extended if there enough fuel and tucker.
present moment im prefurring the weekend of 15/16 but if the numbers want to go for the second weekend (8/9th) then i will be as equally keen
ive got my ears open
cheers Rohan

Re: pureora forest
Kakaho is $8 per night per head.
It is all still there, but this close after the holidays, the long drops will stink
(thanks Skid for the puking smiley).
We went there early November and it was beautiful and peaceful, til we got there
Roaring V8's and diesel smoke ruled the weekend. It was the best weekend 4x4ing I have had
Lots of panel damage
I maybe into another trip there.
I will have to see closer to the time.
Cheers,

Re: pureora forest
Hey Rohan,
I would love to go, but I'm in truck preservation mode for the Tuff truck challenge, Easter weekend.
If you are trailering, then it would be best to leave trailer at the camp ground and pay the camp fee. Bogg Inn Track is just up the gravel road a few hundred meters, so no worries getting to it.
Have fun
Cheers,
Simon.

Just been at the Lions Camp for a week and did a fair bit of Ngaroma. My first time in there and I loved it. I would recommend it to do. Had a great time with a great bunch of people.

Re: pureora forest
You can park your tow wagons at the Kakaho Campgrounds & indeed pitch tents there. No real maps of the area, just pop your nose down tracks and see how ya go, A lot of it is being milled at the moment though so a few of the good ones will unfortunately be out of action

That's miles away on the other side of the forest to the Ngaroma block incase any one is worried. It'l be wet, but you can just do the easy tracks if your not up for it

if your going to Kakaho camp ground then head for tokoroa when you get to tokoroa head for whakamaru/turangi when you get to whakamaru at the first petrol station youll see another sign heading for turangi/national park roughly 28kms up there on the right is kakaho road head down there and youll hit gravel and youll come to three camp grounds on your left. take your pick

Re: pureora forest
Not that my truck is likely to be "ready" till spring now, but whats the difficulty of Pureora like compared to woodhill?
Would a KZN130 on 32's lifted 4 inches be capable? No winch, and no rear locker as yet? Would 2-3 similar trucks be ok, or would you recommend at least 1 winch vehicle?

Yead mate more than capable, Pureora is a goldmine for all sorts of different levels of trucks. (I was practically brought up down there along with "Pureora Bush Guy") I'll send you a PM, we're doing a trip there later this year and you could join us possibly.
