Consider this book if you're doing a bit of solo exploring around the South Island and don't know where any of the tracks are

http://www.mightyape.co.nz/product/Book/4WD-South-Exploring-South-Canterbury-Otago-and-Southland/1715703/

I have it and it's pretty detailed, there are similar ones for the North too.

Welcome to NZ and offroadexpress. If your looking to replace the lwb sj413 in this country you could find it a bit differcult.Had one myself and it was an Ausie import, They are around but most have rusted out by now but there are still a few good sj413's around but a lot more Samurai's.There is a couple of very nice Sami's on trade me at the mo.You will love getting around, "gods own" in your 4x4,we truely do live in an amazing country!

Be warned about tyre sizes on the delica. 29.5" is about the largest you will fit on there without getting busy with a hammer.

You'll get 31"s on there okay if you fold a bit of the body flat, and cut some of the front bumper out.

Hi Zukiestien,

NZ's equivalent of the OS maps are LINZ's topographical maps - availble in shops, or you can download them for free and print off the bits you want from LINZ's website - http://www.linz.govt.nz/topography/topo-maps/map-chooser/index.aspx

There's also an online version of the LINZ topographical maps at http://www.topomap.co.nz/ - makes research a bit easier!

Have fun playing! :D

You can get those maruti lwb samurai ute things now through suzuki Bikes NZ. They are like 17k or thereabouts brand new. Sounds like they can be a bit mix and match for parts but the new bodywork is nice.
I dunno how they could be put on the road as they don't meet frontal impact standards do they??

If you stick up the areas you plan to visit maybe guys from those areas could recommend spots to go to?? Have to be delica friendly though.

Go to Northland Auto's Al they have 1 on display there they look mean as have a winch and tipper rear tray etc but they run IFS (from memory) and are 2 seater and 1000cc.

IFS they are not
They are like a stretched samurai wellside. Solid front end. One i saw had an injected engine. Went well. Only seen two so far. Guy at the suzuki stand at the fieldays said they were marketing them as farm trucks.
They are two seat and apparently come with either a soft top desert type roof thing with no sides or just a canvas rear wall behind the front seats.
Was on leaf springs from memory.

Just stick maruti lwb in google and you'll see pics. They're an indian manufactured zuk. Can't find anything about it on a nz page but the zuk guy seemed adamant they were going to carry them. I know the demo one sold as its getting worked on in a shop in Hamilton.
