Considering buying a 130 surf for a work truck; 3.0lt td 5 speed.
I some times need to carry 4.8mt lenghts of timber that are to long to fit on my trailer so I'll need to fit a roof rack of some sort how much wieght can be carried on a roof rack ?.
What are these surfs like for towing as I tow a trailer most days ?
Whats the fuel economy like ?

Afraid I can't answer your question but as the fuel economy question comes up a lot I have a suggestion for the site admins. How about a sticky in each manufacturer section with peoples' average fuel economy out of their truck, with/without mods, big tyres etc. The way petrol prices are going this question is going to get more and more frequent.

Search... thats what its for. As for towing, they have really good power so you'll have no problems there... especially with a 5-speed.
Roofracks are probably not going to want more than 200kg's or so on them... if you start loading all that weight up above the vehicle you're asking for 'odd' handling due to a grossly exagerrated high C of G. I frequently carry 6m lengths of timber on a long-drawbar trailer.. so you might be better going down that route.
Not sure of the regs: might be worth a call to a vehicle certifier to see hat they say, or have a browse on the http://www.ltsa.govt.nz site...

I have two 3-Litre Diesel Turbo Surfs, and my experience is as follows:
1994 Automatic, 31" tyres, no lift, no mods
- town driving: 527K per tank
- trip: 630k per tank
- no tow bar fitted, but plenty of power for towing.
1990 (repowered) Manual, 37" tyres, big suspension lift, bells & whistles
- town driving: 370k per tank
- trip @ 100kph: 413k per tank
- low speed playing offroad: up to best of 430k per tank
- again, great towing power; not 80 series Cruiser league, but very good.
