Hey Guys,
I am comming over to NZ (from syd) for a off road adventure and need helping with picking the right machine for the terrain over there. I am looking at driving all over both islands for about 3-5 months.
I drive a Landcruser now but are they the best ones for over there?

Landcruiser owners will say yes, everyone else will say no. Hope that doesnt come as a shock

What type of cruiser, 80 series? I think you will find that what works in Aus will work over here in most if not all circumstances. Whatever you buy, enjoy your trip

I cant see where you would 4wd anyway.
we dont have any 4wd tracks that go anywhere. mostly just loops or drive there, turn around, drive back sorta thing.
wish we had something like the simpson/outback. at least theres a place to go at the end.
I would just get anything that has enough room. 4wd would be good for beach driving i guess. (90 mile)
cruiser would be good. bit expensive.
a safari (patrol over there) or a surf (4runner) would be good on a budget.

wash your mouth zooka! NZ is laced with great 4wd tracks that start and finish at different spots

thinking old man range in the south, the track around lake dunstan..... then theres macetown and skippers, sure, they are in and outs, but totally wicked!!!
not all tracks need to be hardcore or in the middle of nowhere to be beautiful:

Sheeet maybe I shoulda bought a subaru awd instead of my trucks. What was I thinking getting 4x4's.
Its not only about the destination as the journey is the fun part.
Yes in truth theres plenty of wicked driving to do and scenery to see. Check out that other thread.
I'd probably go lwb cruiser or patrol, maybe a pajero as they especially can be dirt cheap. Theres a couple 80 series on trademe with a bit of lift that might fit the bill atm too??

Travelling alone? You want LWB or SWB? Petrol or Diesel? Whats your budget? What sort of tracks do you want to do?
