Hey all does any 1 know if ya can fit power assisted steering into a series 3 lwb it gets to be hard work when ya doing lots of million point u turns in the bush any help or hints on this would be a great help or if it aint doable were i could get a good condition steering box from mine is worn to the point of being a pig on the road
You could look at a range rover one.... it might even bolt up cant remember the steering on the old landy's I had.... if you want I can post a pick of the box on my RR and you could compair
Series rovers had a steering relay. I had an article that someone from the UK sent me showing how to install the Rangy power steering box and column into a series but my computer died and I lost it . I am going to use the surf box and will have to figure out a column. I think I may use a Holden column that I have up the back, and fabricate it in and somehow make the column longer (not allowed to cut it).
nothing stopping ya cutting it.... what your not allowed to do is weld it That is if you want to put it on the road if your building a bush truck anything goes

Can ya let me know how ya get on and what shopping list im ganna need to put together to do this please and ye it is the relay that was triping me up and getting anything else to fit in beside the brake booster is my other prob their isnt much room in their with the ld28 i had a good look and the way they have set the motor up even means i have a bit of work to even get a pto winch in oh and an unrelated topic does any 1 have a bolt on o/d unit they can spare?
at the moment Im using a holden VL steering column (colapsible). It looks like it will bolt to the firewall well. Im using an IFS surf steering box, De-Ranged high steer arms and tie rod/draglink when I get the front axle in there to measure it up.
What about a power assisted rack and pinion from a SDI
I'm still rebuilding the engine so a test drive is still a wee way off yet
2.5 turns from lock to lock I think that might be faster than standard.
if thats a S1 semi floater then ditch it. At least for a land rover fully floater or even better, a salisbury or toyota. I have seen on the net, someone shaving their salisbury (just the drainplug) and there was 10mm MORE clearence than a standard rover

I am watching with interest. I have got a Range Rover 3.5 with the LT95 4 speed and transfer case in an 86" Series 1 which I have put on a Series 2 chassis so the wheelbase is now 88". That still leaves me with an uncomfortably short rear driveshaft. Looking forward to see you put all this into an 80" chassis. Have you got any ideas yet in this department or have you measured things up yet?
