i put the hose into the rails after each trip. i have the either the front or the rear wheels on a decent ramp and use the water preasure to flush the crap out. with mr gravity helping along the way
it will take 2 to 3 decent washes from srcatch to flush the mud etc out then just a wash after each trip will keep it clean
high volumn with house preasure does a better job the low volumn and using a water blaster
watch each hole in the rails as you wash and only move the hose down once clean water is pouring out of the hole
it will take a lot of time and you will get wet but i believe knowing that there is no muck in the rails assisting rust along is well worth the effort

X2 ... helps when the rear bumpers are off to,
I stick the outside tap off the cowshed pump (High pressure and high volume) and keep it running till the water runs clear out of every hole
