Hey guys
I was reading on some other forums a guy that said he was getting 450kms per tank and from the lights couldnt get wheel spin, and after a 2.5" exhaust he was getting 700km per tank and wheel spin in 2nd, this is a td27t by the way, Does an exhaust really make that much of a difference?
Cheers
2.5" Exhaust makes huge power and economy difference?
Re: 2.5" Exhaust makes huge power and economy difference?
normally no, not a big amount. unless the exhaust is blocked ie muffler has collapsed or soot filled.
Re: 2.5" Exhaust makes huge power and economy difference?
I think he's put the exhaust exit in to his truck
If that was the case I think the manufacturers would have done it.
Sure opening up the exhaust will let it breathe better, rev easier and spool the turbo sooner.
But almost double fuel econony.

Thats what I thought
Re: 2.5" Exhaust makes huge power and economy difference?
Been there and done that
I can vouch for that, as mine had no turbo when I got. It couldn't tow the skin off a rice pudding
Though all my mods were not done at once, it was more like a progression. Now after the big exhaust, it does indeed fly
I could squeeze a bit more out of it but it has enough power now, and the clutch is struggling to harness it.
The hunt for more power has come to an end
Anyone who has seen me out on the tracks and trails knows, it goes real good and even on the steepest sand climbs it never loses speed or revs.
The TD27 is a bullet-proof engine and a guy I was talking to the other day, is up over 30psi, and is now blowing clutches and gearboxes. As for economy.........who cares, they run on the smell of an oily rag anyways. To give you an example, Auckland-Pureora, all weekend and return on a tank and 10 litres
Do it
Plenty of threads and advise to be found here. Search TD27 (as I have been told, search bar your best friend)
If you want any advise PM me with your number.
Cheers,
Simon.

I keep looking for the loose nut behind the wheel, but I can't find it!!
Re: 2.5" Exhaust makes huge power and economy difference?
if you turbo'ed an atmo motor and kept the existing exhaust, odds are the exhaust would be to small and would cause a power loss. so then fitting a big exhaust would gain a lot.
