I've read a few posts on here about members getting cheap (like $70 or so) tie rods through Toyota for cruisers but there was a certain part number. Anyone know if they're available for Hilux's and maybe a part number to save me some time?
Cheers

Re: Cheap Toyota Tie rods?
It was landcruiser 70 series tie rods and drag links, they both come with ball joints on both ends and the first set I brought was $40 plus gst and the second set $45 plus gst.
They will be different size ball joints to your lux so they wont fit, you'll have to ask Mr Toyota what he wants for lux ones?

Is that the 80 series part number there? Will the 80 series tie rod and tie rod ends fit the factory hilux solid axle steering?

Re: Cheap Toyota Tie rods?
So yeah, Toyota want $470+gst for a new one. Have asked around a few places and everyone just wants to sell me tie rod ends and doesn't have a listing for a tie rod alone.
Mine failed a WOF and has bent in two different directions so I reckon its better to try and replace it rather than bend it back yet again.
Any suggestions on where I can get on? I don't really want to go modifying the steering arms.
From a quick look around the net, these won't fit the hilux push pull steering is that right? http://www.snr4x4.co.nz/tie-rod-p-116.html
The length of the 'drag link' is about right but is the diameter different on the 80 series tie rod ends that these are designed for?

70 series prado (KZJ78) and 90 Series Prado (KZJ95)
Re: Cheap Toyota Tie rods?
Try Don Kyatt in Auckland (Terrain Tamer) - they'll be able to get you a tie-rod
Re: Cheap Toyota Tie rods?
I bent mine on the Prado.
I straigntened it and slipped a chrome molly tube over it.
Not welded or anything... Just a "protection sleeve"
It was a snug fit.
WOF man happy as I have not modified anything per say.
But I sleeved mine before the WOF man saw it.

I rang Toyota (chch) for mine - the list price for the bar with tie rods on each end was something crazy like $460+ GST... i said "ouch mate.. thats pricey.. what can you do it for"
Got it for $50+GST
That was for a LN65 lux

Re: Cheap Toyota Tie rods?
I just phoned Northland Toyota and was told a tie rod for an '85 2.4 diesel hilux was $140 +gst....when I pushed him on the fact that I bought BJ70 tie & relay rods 6 months ago for $45+ each he checked and "found" Toyota had them listed at exactly that...
