i got a comment from a girl in the USA who drives an FJ40.... 8) (i secretly love her) ....about my "stinger bar" im assuming its my bumper, and where i got it. well i buzzed it up in an hour and bolted it on  so.....

i think a stinger bar is what we call a bull bar, or a slight variation of it, maybe the tipped forward bar makes it a stinger?

i dunno, im just guessing :?

Hi there
Try this ...

Looks like the removeable tow hook / bow ball mount thingie
Though I could be wrong

http://www.trailerlife.com/output.cfm?id=40843

SHANK -- Also called a hitch bar or stinger, the shank is a removable portion of the hitch system that carries the ball or adjustable ball mount, and slides into the receiver.

SPRING BAR -- Component parts of a weight-distributing hitch system, the spring bars are installed and tensioned in such a manner as to distribute a portion of the trailer's hitch weight to the front axle of the tow vehicle and to the axles of the trailer.

STINGER -- See "shank."

There is no mechanical problem so difficult that it cannot be solved by brute strength and ignorance.

The purpose of a stinger from my understanding is that; if you roll the truck it is soposed to protect the front end of the vehicle (front of the truck will rest on the stinger point when upside down rather than the front of the bonnent possibly wrecking radiator etc)

Thats what I thought

A Stinger bar is to stop you rolling over end for end, popular with the rock crawling guys. Here is a zuk with one
