under water???

ok question, i have a v6 petrol terrano and the question is whats the deal with river crossings??? i had a hilux with a snorkel and i could get water over bonnet no problem, however i worry about putting the nissan in even half way up the wheel, how far is too far, do alternators handle getting submerged ect?? any help would be great,

Alternators will survive a few dunkings, but its the mud that kills them, from memory your air intake is in the guard between the outer and the liner and draws air from behind the headlight.

With those v6's one sniff of water and you'll bend a rod or 3, a gulp will destroy it!!!!

Reroute the air inlet or snorkel it, better to be sure than sorry

Also make sure its doesnt come in your door i think from memory the computer is under the seat. :D

ecu is located in the left rear side of the boot.

definately install a snorkle and also silicon round the dizzy cap and ht leads where they go into the head onto the spark plug, prob with petrol a bit of puddle splash and they drop cylinders

ok thanks will silicone on cap ect, is there something i should spray on relays ect to help keep them in working order,? and does anyone know of any trips coming up lower north island area?? nothing too major

Relays etc will be fine. I've been competing with a Nissan V8 and that has far more complex electric than the VG30 and that has never missed beat when fully submerged to bonnet level. Now oil starvation is a different story!!!!!!!!!!!!

its tag along safari season

plenty going on, check in the magazines and here on the forum for trips.

one I'm doing is in the Wairarapa in February, easy as tag along for a school fundraiser, details in back of NZ4WD magazine :mrgreen:
