Intermittent smoke form the Surf

Post by drtylilman »

Hey Guys,

Bought a 95 Surf KZN130 with the 3l diesel motor just before Xmas. Picked it up from Queenstown and drove back to Chch no probs.

Have noticed though that every now an then when I stop at the lights clouds of white smoke billows out the back. Had it parked up idling for ages and didn't smoke yet every now an then when I'm stopped at the lights it does.

This has had the head replaced last year due to over heating and was done by a machanic so it can't possibly be a cracked head again can it?

I've just run injector cleaner through which doesn't seem to have made it go away.

Any advice would be great thanks

It can be water passing through a head gasket or possibly through a cracked head.

how ever oil pressure is higher then the water pressure on start up so look for oil in the radiator.

can be from air in the fuel system look for wet spots around injector lines and the filter, or from the engine not being warm enough to properly combust the fuel. also check you fuel lines from the tank. brittle cracked hoses etc could be sucking air.

water in the fuel tank even.,

My terrano did the same thing, always left a small black cloud at the lights. I got the injectors cleaned properly ($500, diesel pumps chch), they said they needed doing afterwards and its fixed my smoke issue.
