Yes it still has its original 1600 motor, Gearbox, transfer box with ring pull and permanent 4 wheel drive and original diffs with matching numbers.

That is a very rare 10 spline PTO and belt pulley made in 1948.

There were only 400 made because they wern't compatible with farm machinery which were 6 spline.

In 1948 and 49 landrovers were being promoted as tractors with a welded Ferguson draw bar as well.

This one came from Central Otago and at that time there was no electric power on many stations and the belt pulley would have driven woolsheds, pumped water or cut firewood

Looks great...my first 4wd was a 1950 Landrover ..it still had the chain put xfer case ...but had been upgraded to the big 2286 cc engine lol

For ones who don't know. 1948-50 were permanent 4 wheel drive with a freewheel rachet system.

What this mean't is that on a downhill it could start freewheeling which was dangerous so Land rover had a key ring in the floor to pull up for downhills and reverse and that would stop the rachet working.

Hi Richard, what a great old classic, thanks to folks like you with the skills and dedication these old girls ( no not you Janet ) have been preserved for future generations. Wish I had your patience and eye for detail, maybe when I reach maturity. Just think of the fun someone will have in thirty years time trying to restore the HiLux.

Looks real good Richard, the pom's would pay huge money for that Rover, brings back memories of my first vehicle, I guess I was a bit of a strange lad having a series 1 as my first set of wheels I thought it was real cool, the year was 1989... I was 18yrs old at the time my girlfriend back then hated it
The reg on mine was DX4929 so not a lot newer than your's

Next summer we intend to go cruising down to the beach with the screen down.

It won't be used for 4 wheel driving even though it is permanent 4 wheel drive.

Top speed is about 75 kph so it is not breaking any speed records but doesn't
