Hey guys

Ive got about $400 to spend on the truck this week so im wondering what to do first.

So far its pretty much standard with 31" AT tyres and slightly wound up torsions.

What would you guys recommend doing first as an upgrade to make it more capable offroad?

I can go with:
50mm shock and spring lift
or
50mm body lift
or
Manual Hubs
or
???

Buy cheap mud tyres , remove the rear sway bar
Then fit a rear locker

Until you are ready to run bigger tires lift is not really required And won't help Offroad ability

Most tracks up here are clay, no mud tyres no go anywhere , not invited on trips as mud tyres are mandatory for most

Locker with ATs just means two spinnIng tyres instead of one

everyone is different (due to the 4 wheeling they do) but if it was me i'd spend a couple of hundread on new rear springs (or 80 series second hand ones) and a couple of hundred on hooks/bar work and then save up for some 33 muds. If you are happy with 31 muds then you dont really need to worry about the lift and some tyres/hooks are probably first on the list..

Got any recovery gear?

Im just getting into it, its my first 4wd. Ive got a bunch of checker plate to get a bullbar made up with. Ive got 6.5t D shackles on 3 corners and a recovery hook on the other. Plus have a few tow strops etc just need a decent snatch strap.

I can get 50mm lifted springs and shocks new for pretty cheap, its my birthday this month so more money for the 4wd fund will be coming

I just bought a set of 32" MT's with rims for $180 so will chuck them on for starters...

I was thinking about getting some of that plastic flexy drainage looking pipe and making a snorkel out of that.

How do you normally extend diff breathers?

A 1/8 bsp barb?? Will screw in in place of the stock breather in the diff , then some hose to fit, run to a high location in the truck and put a fuel filter or the origional breather on the end

How about 80 series springs, manual hubs, welded diff and a snorkel?
Snatch strap will definatly help offroad if there's someone else to snatch you...

Tow hooks (front and rear), a couple of snatch straps, fire extinguisher, first aid kit, some spare parts (hoses and belts, etc), travel tool kit.

Join a club ($80-$100 year), use the rest for gas and drive the hell out of it.

Then save for tyres. Second hand ones will do.

Maybe a lift kit next or save a bit longer and get both in one go.

All the big ticket items can wait for later when you get better at driving and start to need them.

Ive got the tow hooks, the extinguisher, the first aid kit, and the tool kit. Also have some new (2nd hand) mud tyres. I have a contact at bnt so i just buy parts on an as needed basis but i should stock up i guess.

Ill be joining a club shortly hopefully.

Things are starting to come together slowly

from the above pic's it looks like you are better equiped to answer your own question. It's hard for a newbie who has never been on a track but looks like you have been out enough to know or at least find out what is holding you back? Is it lack of tyre grip? lack of ground clearance? One wheel spinning caus you always lift a wheel and roll backwards? or are you worried about dents etc on ya truck?

you have to ask yourself those questions because the best way to get the truck that suits your needs is to replace what is holding YOU back not to replace/mod what OTHERS tell you to do.

Cheers and have fun out there.

Haha I was having 4wd issues throughout the day which I didnt realise until it gave up on me completely. Have sorted it now :)

Im wanting to eventually get some decent 33s a 2" body lift and a 2" suspension lift, bullbars and a winch... but thats a while away just taking things slow.

For now though Im just after cheap/basic sorta mods that will give me some assistance so im not always getting stuck

I took it for a quick blast at my mates farm last night to check the 4wd was all sorted and it went really well but it was wet grass/dirt.

get a decent set of tyres, dont care how much horsepower, lift or anything else you first need traction
