you may know or you may not, but the Tinui School is holding a fundraiser on Sat 19th February.

COASTAL 4 Wheel Drive TOUR NO 1

SATURDAY FEB 19TH 2011

The tour will cover country in and around the Castlepoint and Tinui districts, on the “hospitable” Wairarapa coast.

This 4WD tour is intended as both a family affair and a “shiny” trip, with most 4WD”s, fitted with good tyres, expected to comfortably handle the likely conditions.

The tour will start at approximately 60 meters above sea level rising to approx 440 m.a.s.l, taking in extensive and historic farmlands, settled from the late 1840’s.

It will follow, in part, the traditional trade routes (bullock trails) toward Mataikona, then south through the reknown Castlepoint Station, before returning to finish at the historic Tinui School and settlement, for a relaxed and informal BBQ dinner.

Cost: $120 per vehicle
(Lunch provided, for four persons including driver)

Entries Close: 15th February 2011

Limited: to 120 vehicles

Tyres: Good condition. More aggressive tyre with at least 50% tread life left will cope with the basic route

Other: No dogs
No firearms
Time may allow for a swim along the way, with parental supervision

Me and the 'ol man' are going, chance to get the truck into 4WD for a change...

Also nice for the old man as he used to spend a lot of time over there (his grandmother used to look after the lighthouse).

I would definitely be keen for this but I am afraid the price is too steep for me. I am totally for the fundraisers, been to the last two Coastguard ones and will probably go to this years but given it would only be me and my gf going, $60 person is a bit much.

some people miss the point of fundraisers

food included, travelling over some areas we can usually get too, getting to hang out with some other like-mided people, and did i mention its a FUNDRAISER??

note: entry is for 4 people, so get another couple peeps and its only $30 each!!

I know the point of a fundraiser, but putting that tag on it doesn't change the financial cost. enjoy the trip everyone.

yeah I'd go too if it were a bit cheaper... the fundraiser trail rides are really good, usually they get in excess of 150 people paying $25-$30 each, which is going to raise more funds than 15 people paying $120 each

just too broke atm, $120 is out of my budget range when you add fuel etc to the cost....

+ my wagon probably isn't shiny enough

I know the area though and its really spectacular scenery/coastline... well worth it if you have the moneys.

I too believe that the cost of some of the fundraisers are a bit steep for what you get, but in this case I believe the price is good and the funny thing is, that I've actually travelled through the area before and enjoyed it so much, that I am well prepared to be paying $120 to enjoy the awesome scenary again.

It's not that its a steep price, its actually quite a fair and reasonable figure for what you get, some of us just don't have that kinda money floating around atm..... hard economic times, unfortunately for many - it's just a matter of having the spare cash..

You are rich of course skid so you can shout me if ya want?

Probably doesnt help that I have just ordered a full Ironman 2" Suspension Lift Kit including steering dampener for the Surf at $1500 LOL

below is a photo of one of a couple of Landrover Discoverys that had an issue with overheating issues and this was literally only 10 mins into the trip. As you can see in the pic, they came prepared with thier own mechanic, hahahahahaha

Was a great day out. been a number of years since doing a trip like this, almost forgotten how enjoyable 4x4ing can be.

Note to self - remember to use 4wd on steep slopes with wet grass
