(Yes - I have both of your pictures, you scummy little aresholes) If it's found in /perfect/ condition b4 monday, then perhaps the photos can be lost!
Black/Grey Safari, with PTO winch, white steel rims, towbar, 5 speed, 200,000km.
Edit on 5/2: found a photo:

I haven't got the photos here, they are in the hands of security company monitoring the carpark. Collecting them monday am.
I fear that these guys aren't heading to the waimak for a joy-ride. Not unless they wanted to go via Beckenham, where they discarded some letters etc (the person who found them contacted me). Tank was also nearly empty - I hope they ran out.
It took about 30 seconds from when they first approached the truck to when they were on video driving up Ferry Rd, so they knew what they were doing.

Edit : found a photo:

I really feel this was stolen "to order". In a full parking area, two guys make a beeline straight for it, they've broken in, started it, and driven away in 30 seconds. Didn't look like guys scouting around looking for a joyride to me.
I was at a wrecker's yard this morning, buying parts for another car, talking to the guy from the yard who also had a Safari. He told me that he'd heard these were being stolen to order, stripped down, and exported to Middle East, Dubai in particular.

Any updates yet??
Nice looking truck and looks reasonably standard....guess that means those of us with well set up trucks had better keep a good eye on them

Lots of 4wd are being shipped to Middle East as the cheapest way to get parts over there ...thats why so hard to find wrecked ones now.

My 17yo son found this page on Bebo:
http://skin.bebo.com/Profile.jsp?MemberId=10293146221So that's more the "boy racer" cars, but from my limited knowledge of this, outside NZ, there's demand for "real JDM" cars/parts.
I understand that Toyota Hiace vans are also a major target.
I was involved in import/export business for many years, large volume containerised shipping. The "hard" part about this was documentation, everything had to be itemised, international harmonised tariff codes for each item listed. This stored on govt database, statistics fully searchable. Car parts should stand out like dog's balls, and if documentation is wrong/forged, then that's a crime anyway.
If there was a will to catch these guys, they'd be able to do it. I have serial # for the injector pump (recently overhauled), engine and chassis # also available from registration records. They just need to find one item in an FCL of "used car parts" for export, trace it back, and they've got these guys by the balls. Believe me - they'll pull an import FCL to pieces, looking for biosecurity hazard, drugs, GST evasion etc etc. They should look at some export FCLs. Even if bits from stolen safaris are hard to find, complete Hiace vans won't be.

Recovered this morning. They didn't get far. The tank was almost completely empty when they stole it. There would have been almost nothing left by the time they got it, and no fuel warning light on this model).
A little interior damage, but no big deal to fix. Checked fuel at filter, and there was nothing but a sputter. Bled it, and no probs to start.
Won't post their photos here, they can look forward to a very unpleasant tap on the shoulder.
I'm still sure this was stolen "to order", only foiled by running out of fuel, so watch out in Chch if you have a TD42 patrol/safari.

Sorry, but I'm a little confused as to why you would not have posted pics of these guys in your first post unless you were bluffing, in the hope that they were readers of the forum

giving a guy a hard time about not showing you pics which have obviously been handed to police for criminal conviction.
once evidence has been handed to police it can not be used anywhere else. (or some shit tlike that).

Yep.
The other problem is that these two looked much like any of the other little creeps that you see walking around town. So two young guys that look a bit like the two we have on camera look at your car with interest, completely innocently, someone mistakes them for these crooks, and takes to them with a crowbar. Not nice.
Anyway, when these guys get caught, I don't think it'll make any difference unless they spill the beans about who they're stealing the cars for. But I'm sure they fear the consequences of doing that far more than they fear the cops.
I doubt the Safari was stolen for a joy-ride. It isn't a joy IMO driving a n/a TD42 safari on city streets, and if spotted, not the ideal getaway vehicle unless the cops were trying to chase you with Ladas and Vespas.

Sorry, but if it were me, I'd be straight to the Cop shop saying there was video footage of this crime, and let them deal with it.
I didn't think there was any involvment from Freddy, but just wondered why people don't give rego numbers etc straight away when posting stolen items
