No don't panic I haven't changed sides --- YET :o .
A few houses down from me there is a 1993 4Lt Discovery for sale, from the out side it is really tidy, inside looks real good has 160K's on the clock all in all a lot of vehicle for $4500 ono and has been for sale for a few weeks. To all you L/R members what is wrong with them/or right with them ????, at that price would make a good (maybe) TOY  , and if I kept it for another 30yrs like Bulletproofs old ROVER I might be able to double my money, ---- what am I doing  ,

I've noticed a few around that price range, my guess is the fuel cost is getting too much for the owner, especially if it's a daily driver. My bet is that a couple of weeks after it sells you will see a diesel 4wd in the same drive :)

There were heaps imported early/mid 2000s (from Japan, mainly V8 autos). They arent overly economical but back then they were affordable to run every day. I guess with living costs and fuel prices these days not many people can afford to run them as a daily driver.
Personally I think you get a lot of vehicle for the money.

i did change sides..........

paid $3k for a 94 with 140ks, weak diffs, (swopping mine out for land cruiser, ) prone to rust around rear of body and windows, but not to bad to drive, ok power, wont win a drag race but who cares, its V8, coil sprung, rides nice, comfortable, mine is non abs or airbag, so limited electrickery, basic as wiring system and as they say alot of vehicle for the money.
still hate landrover though, but now own one

Rangies have the same thing going on (v8 ones anyway). I find it had to believe that the comfortable LR product, that has at least a resmblence of styling and was actually designed with a wee bit of thought as to how occupants were looked after (unlike any of the series or defender range) can be so cheap.

As every one has said, a lot of vehicle for the money.

But don't do it Fitzy, you don't use the 4wd you alreday have

From what Ive seen theyre also very prone to rusting out around the firewall area in really hard to get to places, but probably cheap cos of the rediculous price of fuel these days

Most peeps complain about them but have never owned one for starters.lol. BUT yes they are heavish on daily driving but then they are cheap as chips to buy. And LPG unit can be bought for around the $4000 mark already so thats worth it for sure. My 93 5 speed manaul (not a chicks auto either) was $2000 with only the common leaking heater rad which i replaced for $25 and my one day's labour at home.

Comfy ride for sure with the coils and once u lift the body and the springs and pop some 33s on it you can play very nicely along side and often in front of other brands. if it breaks and falls over rip the body off and make a tube frame. :)

I don't know how much of a comparison it is but the old fella has a Freelander and everytime you fix something, something else breaks, so it is now sitting broken in a shed

Mainly electrical issues from rad fans to tail lights, sun roof to abs, rear passenger window to drivers window, stereo, AND more,
That list covers front to back, top to bottom, left to right and the middle

Nice to drive when it goes though.

I've done a few things to my truck, like removing the air-con, abs, airbags, short cut alarm fix and repaired nearly every earth connection on the damn thing.....rewired new earths and power terminals, done heaps of mods here and there to keep it going and she is only now starting to run fine. If it wasn't for the internet and being able to do this all myself, it would of cost a bomb to get done.

I would really only advise anyone who wants a Disco, to purchase if they have a bit of a "know how" in basic electrics and mech. Otherwise it could be a money pit and a local mechanic who will know you on a first name basis, with a direct debit to your bank account

There is a reason they are cheap, and I have to say fuel is only one reason.

I still love mine though and won't part from it, till it dies.....It's in the blood
