24v 80 series questions

I sold the 80 series a few days ago, thought I might find something with under 300k.

Wasn't all that impressed with the 1HDT, and am wondering if the 1HDFT is much better? Want something that is reliable (which is why I may just go back to a Nissan), but also has a bit of get up and go.
I'm looking at a '95 4.2T auto with around 250km, are there known issues to look out for? How strong is the spare wheel carrier and can it be reinforced as it will be carrying a 33" spare as well as 60kg of mtb's

Will get an AA check with whatever I look at, but were there still big end bearing issues with these, or any other specific areas to look at?

Cheers

the 24 valve ones rev much more freely and smoother.

easy to get ponys out of  just use google, plenty of things to get grunt without going crazy (same things can be done to the 12 valves)

plenty of people have 35's hanging off the spare wheel hanger

reccomended to replace the big end bearings avery 100,000ks as part of the major service. but not as important as the earlier ones.

the autos are smooth and strong until you put 1300nm ish through them then they cant cope  manual ones are much more potent with tuned engine and stronger and cheaper on fuel.
