Rough Country Kit?

Post by Big Will »

Hi guys,
I was wondering if anyone knew where i could source a rough country 4-5" lift kit from.
I'm contemplating adding 35's or 37's to my truck hence the need for some more lift.

there a guy in the north island that brings them in. be careful though when he gives you the quote it will seem too good to be true....because it is! I paid my money (1200) for my jeep one which would have been enough to get it too my door apparently. then once they were in the country all of a sudden customs wouldnt let them go unless i paid more fees and other bits and peices (another 600).

But in saying that mine was a 4.5" lift for a jeep XJ. It was awesome gear, just let down by the muppet that brings it in....He is the only person as well. (will try find his number if your still interested)

Yeah and wanting to fit 35 or 37 inch tyres you gunna need some spare front diffs and axles

Seriously why not just buy it direct of Rough Country?
I presume this is the kit http://www.roughcountry.com/suspension/ ... -95_5.html

I have imported lots of parts from the US and been good. But be prepared to pay tax on arrival. Doubt they would miss that package

Ive already got 4.88's and a 5L-t, 1st gear is waaay to low (on gravel in 1st and 2nd it digs trenches) and in top gear it feels as though it needs a 6th gear!
I decided i would fix the gearing by adding bigger tyres and it gives me the benefit of looking good while im doing it..

Tallsam66: You have a point, I might look at doing this either Monday or Tuesday, would be interesting to find out how far i can go, 44's would be nice

Engineer: Ive looked long and hard at a SAS but as this truck is 99.9% on road i couldn't justify it..
I really just want a mini monster truck LOL..

youll be able to run bigger tires with an SAS with less breakages that youll get with small ifs CV's and 37s or bigger. Ifs also looks fugly when its all lifted

yeah your pretty much right on both counts, but if i was only using my truck for the occasional river crossing and flood crossing would the strength of the diff be such a big issue?

But why put the bigger boots on if not to use it?
On road they handle like shit, (and I don't want anyone to wank on that they don't, because they do) This is just an inherrant thing that happens with bigger tyres due to sidewall flex. Bang some 33" all terrains on it for a considerable amount less coin and greive.

yup yup!

35's were bad enough for sidewall flex i would never consider going 37+ for a daily driver! Itll be unbelievably slow, use a heap more gas, throw your speedo out, youll get sick of having to use a stepladder to get in it and it will probably hit bumpstops going over speed bumps in pak n save  . youll require cert for something thats not going to be practical at all. your $ and time bud, id be taking very seriously the advice guys here are giving you.
