At this early stage its a heads up to clear the calendar for the 15 – 17th July with more details coming out soon but early info on the event is it will be run along similar lines to last years with Club and Challenge Classes being run, and this year the addition of the new Modified Class.
4X4 Challenges have again been approached to conduct and control our scrutineering phase, with the following restrictions:
CLUB CLASS
* 4X4 Challenges log book OR current WOF no older than 28 days and current registration at time of scrutineering
* 6 point roll cage minimum
* 4 point harnesses minimum
* Synthetic winch rope
* Third party insurance minimum
* NZFWDA member
CHALLENGE CLASS

MODIFIED CLASS

For more information on the rules, check out http://www.4x4challenges.org.nz
Entry fee and Procedure - The likely entry fee will again be $270 (no inflated GST prices here!) but this will also be confirmed along with the entry procedure soon.
Accommodation – a few options will be available and we’ll advise you ASAP.
More updates will be posted here soon.
Cheers
Dan

Looks like you're it Ben!
We're looking for sponsors for the event as usual. I'll do a ring around soon.
Does anyone know if we are likely to have any modified class this year?
We are going to try and organise a public day if possible. I can see this being a headache but it's gotta help to have the public seeing what we do and help with local sponsorship.

Aaron vs fluffy... Aaron would pwn off the light but i think once fluffy got some traction he would fly by mid strip.

Re: ROTORUA WINCH CHALLENGE 2011!!!!!
I'm not to sure about the modified class rules.
Might have to get a 4x4 challenges update on this.
I know you can stick your radiator on the back.

Re: ROTORUA WINCH CHALLENGE 2011!!!!!
The new class rules are in final draft so will be out very soon.
Go here for the draft rules
http://www.4x4challenges.org.nz/news/100
Modified class is still production based vehicles but with only minor restriction on chassis and body mods.
Engine and radiator placement is unrestricted.
Pretty much if it was once road legal and all you've done is cut things off to make it a better truck and still have most of the chassis and the body shell, guards and part of the door you'll be OK. No buggies sorry guys but if the event organiser wanted to have a demonstration group that was totally unrestricted, then that is their decision.
I'm just one voice but I would assume that 4x4 Challenges will be able to provide assistance around rules and auditing of vehicles. Hopefully it won't be me as I'll be racing instead but.....

So, production FJ40 (only minor restrictions applied) some chassis and body mods...
Was once road legal

Will I be OK?

Re: ROTORUA WINCH CHALLENGE 2011!!!!!
Hi Mate as long as its got a 6 point cage and harnesses and the other saftey gear ,first aid kit etc why not come and enter the Superwinch tough truck challenge .from the photo it looks like it fits the modified class to a tee.

Re: ROTORUA WINCH CHALLENGE 2011!!!!!
Was hoping to debut my new truck at Norwest, but cannot do Easter, so looks like it may have to be Rotarua. I have one weenie problem that if I can’t get around then we will be in the new modified class as opposed to challenge. Unless of course you think it’s enough of a handicap building another Jeep, you might let me stay in club class.

You can't stay in club, you have to come race modified with us. Is easter cause the truck wont be ready or are you not coming at all?
MNC you have to come play too. Truck will easy fit the modified rules so long as you have a 6 point cage and harnesses.
Toy - Zuk chassis tub, hilux 4.88 axles and transfer, Nissan CA18DE motor and auto trans, sc12 supercharger, 32 10'5 simex, twin motor 8274 custom freespool. Well the parts are all there in various corners of the shed

Comp rig: Suzuki Vitara, L67 Supercharged V6 Commie and auto, Prado chassis and diffs. Gigglepin 8274 twin motor rear mounted winch, air free spools, 35" Silverstones, ect

"You can't stay in club, you have to come race modified with us. Is easter cause the truck wont be ready or are you not coming at all?"
Should be testing in a month/6 weeks hopefully. I lost a month over Christmas doing stupid stuff with a Safari diff so I’d be doubtfully for Norwest anyway, in saying that, I have other plans for Easter that were set in stone a few months back.

Yeah, its got all the safety gear... Just needs a winch then

When the truck is finished I might come along to one of your club meetings and do a few easier club runs with you guys until I learn how to drive it

I was under the assumption that modified did not need a
WOF. Again I will leave this to 4x4 Challenges for guidance.
Our permits, once they come through shall allow us to have non WOF race trucks in the forest. So should not be a problem. We hope to use some farmland again. This also makes life easier for non WOF vehicles.
Cheers

Cool4x4 challenges specs say that club and modified class dont require wof/reg didnt know if your permit for the forest would require it.

As long as you have tyres that are smaller than 36.5x13.5 then you should be good to go. The point of the class is to get more guys racing.
Nissan Terrano coilovers, turboed VH45, Safari axles, and some other stuff.

At the moment I'll still be running. I suppose i could do something really stupid and offer to fill the left hand seat up for someone! (except for Bernie's dum arse about face truck)

I have no response to that Darin, other than to say I have seen your profile and I am consoled by the fact you’d never fit in the left hand seat. Oh yeah, there is also the bump stop issue, they are designed for intermittent only.

Event Streamlining.
A bit of a survey here.
We are looking at the hot dinner that we put on in Mamaku Forest between the day stages and night stages.
Would it be better if we knock the entry fee back a few dollars and not have the meal?
Cheers
