My FJ40 running a 2F has been set up with a distributor with electroinc ignition (no points). It is aftermarket and was set up by previous owner so I dont know what it is out of.

Unfortunately the Ignitor has died.

Does anyone reckognise what make & model it is (no writing on it to identify :( )??? So I can replace it... Cheers,

Is the pulse generator in the dizzy the old magnetic type or shutter wheel-hall or optical light?

If its magnetic (generates an ac voltage) you could use a horse shoe module out of early Mitsis or Mazdas, the two inner pins go to the generator and the outter larger ones coil positive and negative

It might be a Lumenition.... they were popular about 20 yrs ago .....they placed a blade inside the dizzy ...with 1 blade per cylinder & it spun breaking an opitcal sensor when it spun.
Were the latest thing before electromagnetic dizzies came out.
Were great as the opitcal sensor replaced the points.

Thanks guys but I dont think it is Lumenition. There is definitely no optical LED set up in the Distributor.

It has a spinning rotor that passes contacts as it goes - kinda looks like this (best photo I could find online at short notice...):

I dont know the difference between magnetic type or shutter wheel-hall  but now you mention it Mitsubishi Galant is ringing some bells - could that be right? If so any idea what years I should be looking for???

Thats a sealed unit. Need pic of the dizzy internals to identify what it might be.
If you have a good local Auto sparky he might be able to sorce a direct replacement, worth a go...

OK, I'll get a pic of the dizzy internals - prob wont be for a couple of weeks though...

I had a sparky take a look (as I suck at electrics) and asked him to recommend something but haven't heard back from him...

I was really hoping to get a direct replacement from a wrecker - would have to be the cheapest fix - but I don't know what vehicle make, model, or year I'm looking for :(

Yeah, you may be right. Was hoping to keep the electric ignition but I want to get this truck out in the mud so that may be the best short term fix...
