take the passenger door off, both seats out, the engine covers off and the cover from behind the the engine box, under the floor mat.
comes out the top, you really need the door off to get enough room to move the engine crane around. Other than that it's just a fiddly bastard of a job.

If you were lucky enough to have access to a hoist drop the whole motor and box incl subframe out the bottom.

i've just pulled out a 3l out of a hiace. out the bottom is far easier. the catch is you need something to lift the van up high.
leave the gearbox on, undo bottom cross member and a couple of suspension bolts and drop the engine down with floor jack. then lift van up and pull engine out. tractor with forks comes in handy.

Oh sweet thanks, I wish i had both the above lol but im not even sure my shed will allow me to lift the van high enough so may be a outside ground job.
Unless there's someone wanting to do a perky ha
