looking for a locker for the front axle of my 1994 GQ,

whos the cheapest?

When I looked around I found the following (quoted from his e-mail back to me).

From memory they come with a 3 year no questions asked warranty??

Thanks for the email re the Lokka for your Nissan. We would need to know the model to supply the correct one as there is two available.

Either way the cost is $803.50 inc GST and Courier.

this dude can do a good price bout $650 however you may have to wait a week or 2 as i got the last gq lockrite in nz tell him taz from towbars put you on to him,
ive had both types lockrite and lokka and much prefer the lockrite

the warranty on both types dont extend to the 4 pins and springs but are only 50 bucks for a set

I thought a lockrite was a lokka??? anyone care to elaborate on this. who makes wat and the differences please

"Lockright" lockers are made by Richmondgear in the USA.

"Lokka" is australian made, from what I have heard, the Lockright is superior

do these lockrights need air to enguage or not?, how do they work, do they cause strange steering when in 4wd? i was looking at arb ones but i can get 2 of these for the price of one arb :shock:

He has the same lockers on trade me for $629, on his website for $669.
Only has toyota one on trade me at present

full auto locker no air needed disengages when turning some may argue this but i have never had any problems and yeah go front and rear for less than the cost of 1 arb...............no drilling holes no compresser no switches wiring hoses ..............

Def in the the market now to put one of these in the front of our safari.

We had our club champs yesterday and one course you dropped into a drain and turned hard right with truck on horrible angle.

Guys without front locker got crossed up and went nowhere.

Guys with front lockers tried it but couldn't turn and went into bank on farm side (was a tight turn)

Then came the safari in our club with LOKKA in front and we walked around the bend as if it wasn't there and even climbed back out of the drain again. He had drive going to both front wheels but it allowed him to turn.

Nothing like a real world demonstration to see one in action to make the mind up.

I rode in a 70 series with front and rear chinese air lockers two weeks ago. Its the 4wd Fiberglass workshop hack.

The truck did very well and as it was my first experience in a vehicle with air lockers I was impressed by how well they operate. No fuss or drama just instantly locked with the flick of a switch.

Have been in a few vehicles with lockrights and they sounded and felt broken when driving on the road.

With that said though, I was out yesterday and a mates truck with ARB locker kinked and split its rear airline at the diff while playing in a bog. What a pain in the ass.

yep i see that, i didnt know if it would stay enguaged whilst turning once it had felt a need to enguage, i didnt explain, sorry. but obviously it doesnt.

ive had both and now would only recommend arb air lockers.
in when you need it and out when you dont

two locked diffs wont let you do a climb and turn 180 degrees at the same time as a lot of bush tracks do and when its wet they will just push you forward. two locked diffs wont let you siddle a slippery track or grass hill and as soon as you excelerate on the sidelings auto lockers will both lock up sending the vechile downwards.

spend good money on the arb rear locker then save up and do the same in the front

just my 2cents worth anyways

re the hose breaking i have fitted a suitable chain that travels the same path as the break hose and threaded the hose thru the chain ensure the hose has a bit of slack eather end to allow for movement etc . i work on the thoery that as long as the break hose doesnt get ripped out then neither will the locker hose. and with the chain fixed top and bottom it is proberly looking after the break hose anyway

this system has worked mint for three plus years and i have done all the tracks up in the upper north island except waitawhata which i will be doing next month

The turn was tight and also crossaxled both before the turn and during the turn.
The Guy's with front Air lockers engaged couldn't turn sharp enough to get out, turning locker off ment a front wheel would spin and they wouldn't get through.
The Guy's with LOKKA still had enough drive to both front wheels to get through the cross axle bit, but it disengaged enough to let it turn sharp enough too.

It was very interesting to see how different truck's performed during the day, We have alot of Safari's with similar (Yet different) set-up's...

Keep in mind; this is competition, so you don't get to back up and try again like on a normal 4wd trip...

(Hope SirGerald isn't complaining about my courses being to hard! :lol:

To right I'm complaining. They were far to hard and tight and I think that the club should ban all members that helped setting up from ever being involved with set up again.
