Polyester Yacht Braid

Post by Turaco »

Any one with experience in using Polyester Yacht Braid in recovery situations: non-stretchy, stronger than manilla, cheaper than dyneema, runs though blocks.

as long as you can find out its breaking strength you should be able to use it. whats the cost of it compared to the "proper" stuff?

Seen some cowboys back in Oz try using this. All I can say is lucky they weren't too close, would have lost their heads. If they were able to take the forces that recoveries induce then we all would be using it.

Thats not to say Plasma is the only good stuff out there... there are plenty of good quality nylon winch ropes available... shop around.

You still have to be carefull with some electric winches as the drum acts as a heat sink for the motor. Wire rope doesn't loose its integrety with heat build up (unlike some other materials). High mount electrics, hydraulics and PTO units should be okay, but check first.
