depends on what you have: LWB, SWB, auto Manual?

I have a carby, manual SWB that I get 350km on a tank if I am nice on road, 315km is more normal and if its a good days wheeling then about 200km a tank. I run 95 too. Oh and those figures where with a dented tank. haven't driven enough with new tank in yet. Suzuki's do tend to be thirsty little bastards

mine auto swb injected tank is quite dented in too so might have to get my hands on a beter one

Saying how many km out of a tank is a waste of time ....you need to work out the litres per 100 km.
Very easy to do ...fill tank completely up ....zero odometer ...then drive till almost empty....then refill again.
now just work it out .
Eg 414 km using 41litres.
41 divided by 4.14 =9.90 lites per 100km
This will only be accurate if your speedo is accurate.

I have a V6 LWB Auto and get 13.5l/100km. Vitara's are thirsty considering their size. I suspect you should be getting around 10l/100km all going well. Also if you have larger tyres to odometer reads lower than the actual distance you have covered.

yea my speedo is out so cant measure liters per 100km now my co2 sensor has packed a sad now what i need to knw is what 1 i need iv been told when it got ecu scanned for faults that it is because my sensor has one wire coming out from it but the electric plug it hooks into has three wires (so goes 3wires to 1 wire to sensor) now the other exhaust shop said this was normal and it was a universal engine loom (hope this makes sense ) who is right?? should my sensor have 1 or 3 wires?

If it's the sensor in your exhaust, it's called the oxygen or o2 sensor. 3 wires on these generally mean its a heated unit (sensor needs to be hot to work right so a heater is used to bring it up to operating temperature faster). 1 wire is a unheated unit. It sounds like someone has replaced the original 3 wire sensor with a 1 wire unit (I presume the 1 wire units are cheaper), it might still work if you get the wiring right. If you can get your hands on the right one I recommend using it.

I don't know if a faulty o2 sensor would cause an ecu problem, but it probably will use more gas as the fuel injection has to spend more time running in open loop mode.

You really need to get firm figures on the milage. I can calculate it for you if you get me:

Standard tyre size
Current tyre size
Fuel used (liters)
Distance traveled

I'm assuming that you have larger tyres than standard and that your speedo reads correctly with standard tyres fitted.

i have 30s fitted and when i got the ecu scanned for faults oxygen sensor was what came up as fault when i get this fixed tomo hopefully i will put up fuel used and and distance if you could work that out for me it would be much appreciated

ok so with a day of 4wding and some motorway work and some city work I got 315km to a tank, that works out to 10.79L/100km or 9.26km/L

So doesn't seem to bad

If I did 350km on a tank like I have it would be 9.71L/100km or or 10.29km/L

fwiw i get 350km out of a tank of 91, road driving, not exactly cruising. 3dr manual EFI. hastings to thames in christmas traffic.

ok got new sensor, engine light has come on once since any ideas why?

That figure of 10.7l/100km sounds about right.

About the check engine light, are you any good with extracting faults from car ECU's?

What size are the standard tyres for your vitara?

this might be a dumb question but do you need to reset comp after fault is fixed?? as for standard size is 205/70R16

Its worth a try to reset the computer. According to the website if you leave the battery off for a minute it resets the ECU.

You need to add 10% to the amount of km's you traveled to make up the difference in the tyre size. This will make your fuel economy even better!

my exhaust temp light is permanently on when i turn my suzuki on (even when its cold) , does this mean that my o2 sensor is stuffed?
Do i just need to buy a new one to fix it?

make sure you leave the battery off for atleast 10 minutes the capaciters in the ecu are capable of storing power/data for longer than a minute without power

could be catalytic converter is blocked up there for causing it to get hot (might be wrong)
with my co2 sensor it was the engine management light on not exhaust temp that's my 2cents worth

Put an earth wire from the catalyst housing to the chassis of the vehicle, the light should now go out, if it is the exhaust overheat light that is on?
What happens is the sensor in the exhaust relys on a good earth to keep the light out,as you know exhaust systems arnt always the most rust free item on a motor vehicle,also make sure you give the area where you put the wire a small sand up.
