Hi Hiluxhunter,

I have a Runva winch 10,000pound and I got it for $750 it is a slow winch but It is very reliable, I have had no issues with it so far. This will be one of the cheaper brands out there.

There is also Superwinch but you are going to pay the $$$$ for these but are very good quality.

Also try googling Tigerz11 I think this is an Australien brand of winch.

There are also several other brands.

I would have a look at the websites for these and note down the specs for each and compare

Cheers.

Personally I would be going for a well known brand that has proved them self. Super winch, Warn, Comeup, Runva all seam to be really going winch’s. If you are planning to buy new make sure you buy off a dealer so that they can offer a warranty and replacement parts.

Agree.
Mine has performed faultlessly.
Mike is a good bastard too.
He replaced my wireless box for free after a year.
Just pays to do a little remedial work to the solenoid pack.
I filed the contacts and polished them to ensure 100% surface contact. No problems since.

I have allways had Warn winchs untill recently when I got a Tigerz 10,000lb with the big drum that easily holds 40m of rope. I also for the first time tried plasma rope and on a recent mammoth trip I gave them both the work out from hell. Winch totaly submerged, long winchs and even strapped another truck behind and winched through the long bog at Thompsons. This is a real fast winch with plenty of grunt. Heaps faster than my warn xd9000 and keeps the speed up under load. I feel over time the remote will not hack the pace but as I hard wire the solinoids to buttons on my dash I am not worried about this. Brett at Tigerz has been awesum to deal with and knows what he is talking about.
Plasma is lovely rope to use and so user friendly :D

Yep. A big drum tigerz is the way to go. I have 40m of plasma on and have lots of room to spare. I reckon I could fit another 15 m on and still have working room. :D

After doing 3 hard core tracks and having winch totaly submerged in Thompsons shity mud, grinding paste water on more than 1 occasion my Tigerz winch has been pulled apart for a nosey. :?: I was interested to see how good the labarinse type seals worked at keeping the water out of the motor and gearbox.
The verdict was great. :D No water inside the gearbox, drum or motor. On the end of the drum you can just see a slight change in the color of the grease which could be an indication of water mixing with the grease but you have to look hard. Another reason to pull it down was to use Inox grease in it which is absolutely brilliant stuff and well proven in other hash applications. All in all I am stoked with the Tigerz winch and just love the fact the brake works instantly the moment you let go of the button.

Is Runva a good trusted brand?

This seems pretty cheap:
http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motor ... 681699.htm

Also im guessing the standard bullbars for terrano wouldnt handle having a winch on them? Talking bout these ones:

Mine is a EPX9500.
A bit quicker than that one.
Still a Runva, and still stand by it

Oh thats allgood. Not too worried about speed, as long as i get out of being stuck its allgood. Do you think those standard terrano bullbars wouldnt be strong enough?

The link you posted is from an Aussie site, to witch I subscribe to that mag too, so not the most common of bars here and they are not "factory" bars, merely after market bolt ons.
I have a ARB steel bar that has been up-graded to hold the winch and offer a little protection from my driving style
Mind you it is getting bent beyond recognition.....bugger :!:

Oh ok, well i assumed they were factory as i have seen a couple(like 2-3) with the same ones, very similar to these ones http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motor ... 697539.htm
They incorporate the bumper in the bullbars. Anyway with the terrano me and mate bought with buggered motor it came with them, so they are mine :) Would they be suitable for winch?

Cheers

U13turbo, considered one of these? http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motor ... 953935.htm
I'm waiting to see if I can get parts to fix my old Runva (GEW9000) like what you just posted. A bit of mine melted and I think thats what's caused it to stop working, this is the thread about it: http://www.offroadexpress.co.nz/Forums/ ... 77&start=0
I only got in touch with the winch.co.nz guy today and he'll get back to me if he's got the parts.
When mine stuffed out it was following a trip that probably asked to much of it (pulling my hilux up a wet clay hill on a single line pull with a surf behind it for at least 30 mins).

If I can't fix it or it'll cost too much I'm going for a 9500.
From what I've heard about the 9500 its a nice fast unit and there is a lot of positive feedback on them on here.
If you add one of those 9500s to your watchlist and you'll get a fixed price offer of $750 when it closes or they have a $750 reserve. (I have watched a couple). With the Plasma rope is a bonus.

have any of you guys been using any of that synthetic rope supplied by the runva guy, I brought some 10mm stuff off him recently to replace my old overbraid, does all that rope originate from the same manufacturer or is it lower grade chinese stuff? :?:

Pass.
I got my winch when they came spooled with wire
Still have the wire in the corner of the shed....never been used.
Got some amsteel 10mm off 4wd Bits (same as on Runva now), lasted 2 years then "went off" and became brittle. I could just about snap it at will.
Got some 10mm Dux 75 to replace it, happy so far, still got 18 months to go before it surpasses the amsteel.
Synthetic rope rules over wire anyday 8)

yeah I was sort of wondering how long the life is with the uv exposure, I had my overbraid on my flatdeck for 4 or 5 years and its been on beer cruisers truck for the past year and it was a hand me down when I got it, its pulled lots of heavy shit and lasted that long without breaking. I thought I'd try something different, the overbraid retains its round shape and cuts down through the layers on the drum something shocking under load and you get sick of trying to get it unspooled again? :x
