New Guy Here With An Exotic "FJ25" Land Cruiser!

Hi Guys!
My name is Archie and I just moved to Auckland from USA. Not to mention I bought my Vintage "FJ25" along with me. This is a pre FJ40 Land Cruiser and very rare to find as they are said to be only 200 ever built by Toyota world wide. Mine is 1959 and was first issued to US Army and registered in 1962 in USA.
I am looking for info on Land Cruiser restorations. As I am planning on frame off restoration with modifications in engine and drive train. I m planning to put a diesel motor with matching manual gear box and transfer case.
At present it has original drive train with chevy straight six motor.
Cheers!

You've sure got yourself a unique bit of hardware there!!!!
Doesn't sound like the sort of thing you'd go bush crashing in though
Pity i'm in Ch Ch, sounds like something i'd like to see in the flesh. Good luck with the rebuild.

Yeah, please post photos... I would love to see that. I've read about them, heard of them, think I've even seen a pic... but wow... one in the flesh!
Have you spoken with the LTSA about getting it on the road here?
Welcome aboard
Steve

I will sure post some pics in few days. I checked up with LTSA b4 bringing it here. So I hope shouldn't be a problem putting it on road.
Post me all the info possible on vintage Land Cruisers.

Hi there,
If its that rare wouldnt you want to keep it original and keep the old motor?

I,m with Aaron on that 1. You don't want to changing factory matching numbers (if that is what the rig has) on a vehicle like that.
If you want a crusier with diesel bits and a 40 series kind of look, I would be looking around for a diesel powered 40 series.
Doesn't cahnge the fact that we need pics, FJ 25 sounds like a cool machine.

Hi Guys,
I agree with you on keeping it original, but unfortunately it dosent have original motor and wheels in it. I bought it with Chevy 294 straight six motor. but rest every thing is original in terms of powertrain and and everything else. And on the other side I want to drive it for my daily use and the original 4 speed transmission (Yes FJ25's came with 4 speed manual transmission and single speed transfer case) dosent have syncro's in 1st and 2nd gear so its kinda of pain in ass to shift those gears.
Thats why I am looking to change complete drivetrain with the motor. other then that I will keep it all original cosmaticaly. and will save original parts so when I will grow old I will put it back together and keep it in some museum. But right now I want to drive it every day.

I`ve got a 2B 3.2ltr out of a 1980 BJ41 - if anyone is interested. Its still in the truck and you can hear it running.
Comes with starter motor, alternator, etc .Would let it go for $450 if buyer takes it out of the truck.

I'd 2nd that. A 3B turbo would be a good mill. My mate picked up a complete running 3B-T powered BJ74 for $1500 the other day so they should be getting cheap. They are often labelled 13B-T.
Cheers

3BT sounds great. preferably complete with 4 speed tranny and matching split case transfer case.

The 13BT is a pretty common engine. Although i'd stick with the 6 cylinder. 2H 4.0 litre engnines are common as mud too.
What is the handbrake set up. On the back of transfer case i assume.
That will limit you to the fourspeed setup.
So many options. If i had the choice and the hand brake was on the rear axle I'd go for the 6 cylinder 12HT diesel turbo. 5 speed box with PTO on the side for the winch set up.
Sweet.

I think you guys are right, converting into diesel will be a lot of work and money.
May be I should look for early 6cyl "F" MOTOR and keep everything stock and should consider LPG kit for economy.
Cheers!
