2roky, sorry can't help with the conversion but it has been documented before. If your worried about the cost of Diesel :? , then what about the Petrol prices  . The best advice I can offer to you is, save the conversion money and  ,

BLOW IT OUT THE END OF THE BARREL,

yeh the fuel price isnt the worry its all the added extras of rego, road users servicing, as im doing quite a bit of running these days. taken me 2months to use 10,000km road users.

as for blowing it out the barrel, i dont have time for that these days only get every third weekend off with working in the mine

A conversion will never pay off in reduced running costs. Stick with it or buy something else. Unless you just want a V8! Then go for it. Any car is expensive to run big ks these days...

You need to cost up the conversion and then factor in the difference you will save between the two in running costs.
Typically you will find the savings in running costs wont be seen for many years as those savings are paying back the conversion.

Make sense?

the installs I've seen have been in pre 94 prados, the beam axle variant. I haven't see one in a 96, I expect you'd be talking between $4 and 8k depending on how much work you do yourself.

Not much help I know, I would think $4k in parts is reasonable

Have you emailed marks adaptors is aus? They really know their stuff but don't seem to put everything up on the website. If you emailed them telling them what you want to do I'm sure they'll let you know everything you'll need.

If you want a petrol one that is the best advice you will get. You also need to bear in mind the actual running costs of a petrol one. You will struggle to get a V6 or V8 one pushing that much steel around to do better than 14-15L per 100ks.

$2.50 a Litre is on its way, that makes for $45 a 100ks, trust me a deisel is not that bad. For you thats $4500 every 2 months

As a comparison I had a v6 rodeo 4x4 and being really nice it would do about 15l/100ks (towing was over 20L/100). Another guy got a new common rail Colorado 4x4 and it does like 700ks to a tank (same size as rodeo tank) was faster (yes we lined them up and the diesel was faster to just over 100 then the petrol would catch up.)

I hate the rego and miles on my current ute but there is no way I would run a petrol one. It would be ouch every other day at the servo not just once every couple months or so.

I know it was not the question but my 2c (no gst rise here) anyway.

ok this is only a ball park fiquire so lets go

engine complete < everything including the computer $2000 off TM

brackets bits and bobs fuel lines etc $1500

lvvta cert $800

auto sparky $2000 hook up computer, alternater, starter, temp and oil gauges posible electric fans etc

labour - do most of it your self micnic to finish things off $1500

- micnic doing it all $4000

exhaust $1000

MINUS if the 1KZ is in good condition then maybe you could get $3500 for it

summry

maybe if you did alot yourself than $5000

if you got pros in to do it all maybe $10,000

only rough fiquires but this should give you an idea

time frames time off work and doing it yourself 2 to 3 weeks

doing it yourself after hours etc 2+ months

micnic working on it full time 2 weeks
micnic part time 6 weeks

there you go pull it apart and disect it all im sure theres holes in it

but you will get what i mean ah

good luck and the exhaust sound will out weight any cost differance there is in fuel

so say me whos running a 350 as a D/D on love gas mind

cheers

put it this way.

Rb30 Vl commodore block 300$

nissan skyline Rb25de head and loom 400$

Custom toyota to nissan bell housing (chop and tig weld) 100$

Custom engine mounts(two boxes of tui)

custom radiator and intercooler(cut down mack truck intercooler)

180 for the end tanks another two boxes of tui to weld them on.

turbo set up from 1997 R33 Gts 25-T including piping and oil lines etc 1100$

cert 450$

refund on RUC's 124$

so for about 3 grand you can have a cheap Rb30det to run around in off boost and more horsepower then a 1uz at the end of a boost tap.

its who you know not what you know. those trade me is for people who wont go and wander around a wreckers yard and offer 500 bucks for a motor if they take it out them selves,

cash for the proprietors back pocket on a friday afternoon and you got one hell of a cheap and near bulletproof powerplant.

1uz are over rated unless there turbo'd, me mates got one in his hilux and the Rb30det pisses all over it in performance and fuel consumption i get 450 to 470 kms on a tank in my hilux his went down to 300 340 k's and the cast iron straight six block has been more of an advantage for traction then the alloy v8

and you can seal up the coil cover with urethane to stop the water getting to the spark plugs and coils so you can drive a petrol motor through a river (snorkel needed of course.)

you could do this to a 1Jz GTE aswell, but there rare as hens teeth these days.

awsome cheers guys, i havent made up my mind about what im going to do just yet, as im still in that exploritory stage.

if i do go down the line of a conversion then now would be the time to do it as 25000km ago i had the engine fully recon'd so there would be a little more resale value in it.

and yes my kux it was stuck both back wheels where off the ground and the offside front was hanging there as he'd sat therr and spun his wheels

If you go for something other than the 1UZ, your better off with a super charger rather than a turbo. I put a 2JZ NA into my prado and was planning on super charging it...

With the money that a 1uz conversion will cost i would def sell yours and get the 3.4v6 RZ version, they a great engine and apart from the sound will do everything the 1uz will do, then if you need more grunt find or import a factory TRD super charger kit for it.

Or keep the 1kz as they a great little diesel and if i could of afforded one at the time i would of put a later model intercooled one in my lux instead of the lexus V8, and remember there are ways of getting around paying for the RUC's aswell 8) 8)
