Hi there I am new to this site and 4wdriving I have a 86 LN61 surf with a dieing 3Y. I have considered fitting a 2.8 supra motor but understand a body lift is required for this conversion into a ifs truck which ive been adviced agaisnt doing. Any advice on another suitable conversion which will give better performance than the 3y and fit easier than the supra motor would be appriciated.
greetings..

Nah for what I want I find the ifs does all I need at this stage. the motor is just tied and in need of attention and id like to fit something with a bit more power thats all.

What advice ? a body lift is a non event and very easy and inexpensive to do. You probably won't get a cheaper conversion than the Supra.
Maybe do a 4Y but not much gain there !
There's some good advice for you, also steve put together some info a while back, have a read

Your local 4wd shop either doesn't know shite or is setting the scene to pad the price
This 'how2' article might be of some assistance:

Body lift is an easy thing to do. radiator shroud is the only thing that has to go as a rule, and maybe a spcer in the steering joint (although I have never ahd to do this). I have 50mm blocks in the surf and I also have a 60 series landcrusier with 60 mm blocks in it. When the cruiser was first done it had 50mm x 50mm wooden blocks as the lift (would'nt reccomend doing that

, I just had to get the new 36 inch swampers on, and couldn,t wait to do it the propper way)
