Does anyone have a spare one of these? (The bit that goes in the tank ) Mine has stopped working, and even my attempt at fixing it didn't work.

And Gee motors said it would be $78.20 + GST for a new one

So I would rather get a 2nd hand one

How urgent do you need it?

I'm from Belgium, but I'll be travelling to NZ soon (in about 2 weeks).
I have a 2nd hand sending unit lying around, that I could bring, If you don't find one there and if you can wait 2 or 3 weeks more.

Before I forget, It is a 1600 sending unit I have, the 1700 is different, it has a return line and electric fuel pump as well.

If it is a 1700 sending unit you need, I can have a look around here and let you know what a 2nd hand costs.

I would say it is a 1600 as most NZ nivas are 1600 carb version.

I've got one in the original tank I took out of miniskip, can't remember if it works or not, I took guage out when I re-did the electrics a few years ago

Availability is not a problem, I have literally mountains of spare parts lying around.

What sort of fuel filter do the Niva's have?

I was thinking I could upgrade it while I'm stuffing round with the fuel system

Standard the 1600 does not have a fuel filter, just a little sieve inside the carb.
But most dealers install an after-market filter in the engine compartment, between the metal fuel line and the fuel pump.
Just cut the flexible hose and stick it in between.

If you do want to improve the fuel system, I recommend replacing the mechanical fuel pump with an electric one.

I have had a small tear in the membrane of the mechanical one, and then it keeps pumping a small amount of fuel into the oil sump.
You don't notice this, until the oil is very thin, then the engine stalls because of lack of lubrication. With all the consequences, crank shells, piston rings etc.
