Gen 1 Pajero for Sale, what do you think of it?

Hi all.
I am looking at selling my zuk and was wondering what this
http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing ... ermanent=0 is like? I used to have a Gen 1 ralliart Pajero with PTO but we sold it due to rust (knocking on pillars and hear it crumbling) and I always regretted it.
I dont want a diesel and was wondering is there anything to look out for with the V6's? I want manual too. Don't want auto.
Cheers
Lincoln

Looks pretty shiney!
I had a gen2 with the same engine. Blew a head gasket at 180kms. Apparently it's common for the alloy heads to corrode through from the water galleries... The lifters got real noisey after that, but thicker oil and some MBL8 seemed to sort that out.
Edit: the idle control stepper motors almost always crap out, so if it doesn't idle right, it's probably that. Mine was full of rust.

its weak and I hate fixing it all the time and I can't afford it. Its too little for carrying stuff too etc. oh and another cracked front diff in a different place.
Goes well and I will miss it but its time to move on.

I had a gen1 a while back although it was a diesel. Pretty much strongest of the ifs trucks out there and mine was awesome to drive until i bent something getting stuck in a very cold river.
Is there a reason you want petrol over diesel? I have driven both and preferred the diesel way over the petrol, and the diesel gets about double the mileage to the petrol.
Gotta love the suspension seats, the back is very small for the size it is though.

Have you thought about a solid axle surf or old landcruiser, mk/mq patrol etc? Still relatively cheap, but solid front axle which you can slowly build up to be a weapon. The pajero has a lot of limitations if you plan on getting into 'harder' offroading.

Yeah, why the petrol over the diesel?

Well I would like a petrol as I do a large amount of km's and don't really want to have to pay for the RUC and Rego of a Diesel. But in saying that I do love Turbos, and there is more room to improve upon a diesel than a petrol I guess too. But wouldn't mind the extra power of a petrol.
I am looking at other 4wd's too. I just saw this one that looked good and was fairly cheap. If anybody see's anything let me know
I know how much better the zuk will be than the Pajero but I am not too fussed. Old one went well.
Edit: Budget wise not much over 3k as i still need money to get muds or and or get my R12 project going.

The Paj will be a fair bit stronger but doing alot of km in it..... You will become poor quite rapidly.

Why is it you think this works out dearer? Yeap they are a hit when you have to pay them, but I am yet to see an economic V6 4x4. Having driven late model V6 4x4s for work I would not touch one with a barge pole. Think, being nice to it, no towing no foot to floor anything and 400ks max to 60l of fuel and at 2.16p/l for petrol at the moment you'll need over $120 bucks just to do that. (and thats based on a 2008 v6 not a 1990 one)
What I am saying is dont buy a V6 cause you think it will be cheaper to run, it won't.
If you want the petrol for all the other different reasons between the 2 types then go for it.

Well I am still looking. Bloody sifting through all the overpriced surfs etc. Least Pajeros are still reasonable.
See how I go I guess.

ok so, I am looking at this:
http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing ... =389071626now I have a few questions, such as, what is the 2.3L like? would they be ok with some extra boost and extra fuel? and with that would it spin 33s? alright? also how much is needed to be done to fit 33s?
cheers

Yea I would love to have a PTO winch, saves me money, and yea thats what I was thinking about the seats. Cant remember though what our old ralliart gen 1 was, 2.5 or 2.3
