My mate is still on the lookout for a 4wd.
What do you all think of this?:

Theres one on TM in Auckland, so it's no real problem.

Hi
I got the rugger 2.8td. parts r real hard and expensive to find. if it is the 1.6 varient it will have a weaker drive system than the 2.8. I am waiting till my diffs die before upgrading to lux diffs. I am running tractor tyres and give it death as its only a river / mud truck and nothing broken yet. The back diff does have a bolt on plate on the diff so aparently is easy to fit a loking block or weld it up to permantly lock it.

It is a 2.8. Are all the 2.8's turbo?

I dont think the early 1s were. Mines got no intercooler but i think the later turbo models do. I put the springs over the diff also to lessen the chance of bein stuk lol.

putting hilux diffs in not to bad if you get early ones the front goes straight in but you need to change it to cross oversteering and the diff flange is difrent.
as for the back you need to move the spring mounting plates in 50mm on eachside from memery.
the closest to a locker you will get for rocky is lsd. if you go down that road and cant find one up there i have one 4 sale.

down here in the local mud tracks a loker may be the difference from getin thru or getn stuck. We only try the tracks that no body else can get thru and its the thrill of going places that 'well set up trucks cant or dont wana try'.
I would definitly try get a locker as you may not need to get towed out
