new engine for '91 4Runner - ideas for young/new player

OK,

so I bought a "bulletproof" Surf/4Runner on the weekend and it blew on the way home
(technical term... "blew" - overheated, made horrid noise - I stopped to let it cool and the ***** is seized)

So, not a great start for my 4WD'ing career - but I'm guessing it goes with the territory!

I'm looking for a new Toyota V6 3VZ-E engine,if anyone has any hints/tips/traps for young players to assist getting the wagon actually running?

If there an easier/cheaper repower project than finding one of the apparently "rare" engines?

Who (Waikato/Auckland) would you recommend to do this project?
