Petrol terrano Boxxes.

Ok so im thinking of changing my plans. I will just drive my auto until its blows, then manual convert. I have been told that petrol terrano boxxes are really strong? same as whats in a 300ZX? And that you can just swap bellhousings? So i could get diesel manual bellhousing and mount onto a v6 terrano gearbox and it'd be good to go?

I could be wrong here, but i thought they were the same box and transfer case, but they use different diff ratios (4.3)
Less torque, more rev's with a petrol.
I'm sure others will know more than me, cause a Terrano engine bay looks cramped with a VG30 in it.
All I know right now is a gear/trans box is furkin heavy as mine is on the floor at the mo.
Lifting it back in tomorrow arvo. Anyone wanna wish me good luck :?:
Cheers,

Autos are the same across most of the nissan rear wheel drive range. Later model (post 96ish) are slightly different raitos. Patrol and twin turbo 300zx are basically the same but use more clutch packs internally.

Auto will outlast a manual one if you fit an after market cooler to it. Manuals tend to blow main lay shaft bearing or snap fifth of the back so dont be in to much of a hurry to go manual.

Im guessing that they only snap 5th gear if it loaded up in 5th? i wont be giving it shit in 5th, also i was meaning petrol not patrol =/ I know that the terrano manuals are weak as, but heard the v6 ones were real strong?

Without getting off-topic, TD power, how easy is it to fit the up graded bearings to the input shaft?
Gunna pick up the remanufactured clutch assembly from Autoclutch tomorrow morning, so looking at throwing the box back in tomorrow. The input shaft has a bit of play in it, but not noisy.
Cheers,

re fifth in terrano Manual, loading it up in low range revers will do it. Thats how I damaged mine, backing a trailer up a sealed narrow winding steep drive with a load of funiture, drive line bind bad, next day no fifth and all sorts of rattles. I'm not sure about the petrol ones but would suspect of they are different it wont be as simple as a bell housing swap.

Had my box rebuilt with roller bearings the second time it went ( the fifth issue) and the guy that fixed it found factory bearings in it despite the previous "rebuild". Was mint after that and got thrashed towing and off road for 5 more years before I sold it.

Haha ok so itll take me like a week... Is it a difficult job or pretty straight forward? iv only done a tiny bit of learning about internals of gearboxes.

There maybe an opportunity here to break new ground.
