handbrake setup mod

Post by dani4JB1T »

im planning to fit a light truck handbrake drum behind the gearbox due the well knowed poor action in MUs without drum handbrake. Problem is the slip yoke driveshaft there. Then old lines cables could be used as fiddles to command LSD. any help or better idea ??

thanks

Problem I found when looking at something similar was there is nowhere to mount the brake assembly on the back of the MUA5 gearbox. The Hilux box makes it easy with lots of places to bolt the caliper or drum assembly (look at a disc brake assembly, better braking and holding) to, but the Isuzu one just doesn't.

One option would be to fit a later model MU or Bighorn rear axle to the truck - diffs are interchangeable, and the brakes are far better as long as you keep the seals in good condition.

thanks niblik, Steve...

well if i swapped the gearbox and plug a toyota one, a dual marlin crawler should be a serious upgrade to do. it is very tempting :o

The other way as you say is find a later Isuzu axle, or maybe find a fixed yoke MUA.

cheers

Now you're talking... :) Bolt that box to the back of a Lexus V8 or a worked 350 Chev and you're all done 8)
