Well did nothing of note on Sat.
Sunday I went for a run into the Kaweka's with some friends.
We had a Bighorn and a Surf both pretty standard execpt for the mud grip tyres.
Went up Wittle's Rd and got into the snow.
I learnt heaps from my mates and on the way out we met up with 4 trucks that had got further in than we had.
These 4 were well setup and it was realy good to see how guys set up the inside with all the kit ( air tanks, stroops, tools, etc)
Got a couple of ideas that will end up being fitted to my Bighorn.

All pretty tame but the views were worth it

I spent the day steam cleaning and grinding. My most hated jobs :( .
Although theres heaps of room in the front of the land rover with a whole lot a crap grinded out.

Not much constructive really, whipped the roof of the new V8 FJ and had a blast round the village to wake everyone up.
Sounds fantastic with twin side exit exhausts with minimal mufflers. Shame it's got so much blow by out of the breathers it almost lifts the bonnet. :(

Still hope to have one of the FJs ready for the Sheffield mudplug, otherwise if anyone needs a winch bitch I'm keen.

Oh yeah, and I bought a new Mu last week on Steve's advice so spent the weekend trying it in the snow. Doesn't give up too easy... :D

Actually mate I'm really pleased with it, it's really comfy, bit noisy compared to the Surf but it rides better. We found a 2.8 Manual with a heap of service receipts, it's had services every 5000kms at Blackwells since it was imported 6 years ago. It's absolutely mint, obviously been well looked after.
Shame the front seats are a bit crap though, wonder if the nice Recaros from the Bighorn will fit....

Thanks for the advice anyway, now when I get pissed off with the FJ40 we can SAS the Mu.

Why wait... you know you're going to get pissed off with it eventually... that little MU will kick ass with a SAS and have better power to weight and articulation, more comfort, and they just look great :)

Of course, I'm a little biased...

I just sold my recaros... much to Riks disgust :P

Took some of the local Zuk boys out on Sunday. Awesome conditions - blue sky, wet underfoot. Didnt last too long. One blown clutch, I blew a rear UJ on the rear Propshaft (My first driveline breakage  ) and One Zuk with a dodgy Alternator. The embarrassing part is that the old man was following us round in his 57 Series One Landy and was still running perfectly  )

I must admit I was talking to the missis at the weekend after we'd used the Mu to clear some big arse fallen trees and branches in the garden from the snow. For a shiny truck it makes a good tractor. We did ponder a bit on getting rid of the FJs and gettin a rough Mu, there was a red one on Trademe for 1500 with a stuffed g/box, and modding it up for 4wheelin.

I love the look of the FJs and if Wopass's missile is anything to go by they can go bloody well off road but we've always enjoyed going on trips further away, over to the coast or up past Springs Junction, Reefton etc. And long trips are expensive noisy and uncomfortable in the FJ. I agree with you on the look of the Mu too, they do look great. If only they weren't IFS and need major work to get em going real well off road I'd be sticking the FJs on trademe i think.
I wish I wasn't so bloody indecisive!

Sorry for straying a bit from the thread....

Went for a trip with 12 vehicles up to lake sumner. Awesome trip. Nothing hardcore but some awesome views. A good trip for shineys, as the few slightly deeper/muddier/rutted holes can be got around easily.
If my computer stops being a completely gay ass-jockey and lets me take the pics off my camera, I'll post a few.......

Highlight, 4 wheel donuts in Foxy's 3.5I rover powered surf, while watchin the rangy doin the same!!!

JOY!!
