36 for cert. seen plenty 24 work fine, guess it depends on the shape of the plate, as in does it have a lip or is it just flat.

I think most of the 36 bolt ones use 6mm thick rings and some of the guys that use a lesser number of bolts use 8mm thick rings so that might be worth thinking about aswell

But yea if you want them road legal and certed they need to be 36 bolts.

now ive ben lookng around again and have another question....
are you supposed to cut off the bead and weld it to the outer ring or do you just weld the inner to the outermost edge of the rim and clamp it onto the tyre with the outer??

You cut the bead off and use 2 rings, they are both the same ID, the inner ring is a larger OD than the outer ring, the tyre is clamped between the origional rim bead and the inner ring

Yea you can do the style where you just weld a ring straight to the rim and have a flat outer ring, but with that setup you have to run an anti coning ring the same thickness as the bead

Sounds like you would still need a tyre machine to get the tyres onto the rims if you left the rim intact and just welded a ring on.

One benefit of the ones like Sadam's that Brian Howat and Dan Cowper make is that they can be fitted up by hand - cos the beadlock ring is small enough to fit the tyre over without machinery.

You still need to be careful abut the spacing between the 2 surfaces that actually clamp the tyre (inner lock ring and the outer bead) as different makes of tyre have different bead thickness. I had to get some modified when I changed tyre make - cos they were slipping with the new thinner bead tyres.

iv just loked at my cad file and it wouldn't take bugger all to reduce the sizes for the cutoff bead type, i know my way around a tape measure although i have sen on a lot of yankee sites people using just a flat ring on both the inner and outers without a anti coning ring producing a flared outer ring with no probs....
im just being a little lazy and i should really do it properly
