Diesel motor using to much fuel

Post by u13turbo »

Hey guys, my td27t terrano uses about 75litres for 450kms, i know for a fact other terranos get alot more, up to 700kms.

I have done small checks like checking the intake is clear, and exhaust etc, I think it must be injectors or injector pump, Where can i get them checked? is it expensive?

Yep done it enough to get rid of the smoke, but it must mean somethings buggered cos it should be fine at its original setting? it made bugger all difference to the ks from a tank too.

Na i cant see any leaking. I might go up to Gavins and see what he reckons, he has some pumps there, might help me out.

Check you aircleaner and take you farken foot off the gas. Diesels need fuel and air to burn right. Check any restrictions

As i said i did check the air intake(including fitler, was replaced bout 2months ago) and it was all fine. Also i tried a tank with a light foot and it made bugger all difference.

you driving around town? these other trucks getting 700 sounds pretty huge. There is always a huge difference between someone driving around town and then someone in an identicle truck that does non stop open road driving.
Never argue with an idiot, they drag you down to their level then beat you with experiance!

If it is not black smoking then it is not dumping it into the cylinders.no need to check your injectors and pump.
I would possibly say a fuel leak or someone is nicking fuel out of your tank.

Ok, It just seems that 16.6l per hundred ks seems really high...

What I am trying to say is that if the injectors or pump were letting in more fuel and you are not black smoking it means that there is a complete burn going on so the If there was increased fueling it would give you more power. Which normally means you take your foot off a bit (back to normal fuelling levels) and will use the same amount of fuel as normal. So if no black smoke or power increase then it is not the pump or injectors. Injectors tend to wear and start loosing their ability to atomize the fuel properly or dribble, both cause black smoke!!

16l per 100 km is alot compared to my fathers ( he fills his tank at around 650kms cause his fuel gauge is broken and he never runs out!! he normally loaded up as well)

I would definitely be looking for either a fuel leak on the Fuel return line somewhere, or around your tank. It may be worth putting an anti siphon spring into your filling hose just to make sure no one is nicking the fuel.

Ok thanks for that, It used to blow quite alot of black smoke until i turned the pump down, so there was something wrong.
Also i really dont think its being siphoned, i live down a really quite street and the gauge goes down evenly.
Cheers

not sure if that model has egr but it would pay to check if has it and if its been blocked off. egr valves are known for sticking open which increases fuel consumption a fair bit.

you may be able to unbolt the egr and make a steel plate that fits between the egr block and mount, the steel plate blocks the egr and looks stock...
