Hi I am looking at checking the valve clearances on the terrano and am wondering if there are any marks on the crankshaft pulley to asssist you getting the pistons at TDC,If so where are they? any further advice about this proceedure would be appreciated. cheers

Don't bother with the mark for TDC. When I do tappet clearances on any push rod engine (1 cylinder - 12 cylinder), wind over by hand and watch rockers, when 1 is pushed, adjust the other rocker on the same cylinder, as i find that this over comes any slop in the rocker shaft. All tappet clearances should be done within 2 revolutions of the crankshaft
Cheers,

what about the compression stroke part of the proceedure is this still an issue or do you just go with what you said. Forgive me if my inquirey sounds dumb but its the first time I have done this on this car and i dont want to stuff it up....cheers for your help

Just pull the glow plugs out :D
This method works on any P/R engine and though it is not the normal proceedure it works.

so just to confirm you dont have to worry about the compression stroke part of the job , just measure the gap on the exhaust valve when the inlet valve is fully compressed, no matter what stroke its at?
cheers again mate
